Rest Stop

Jess picks up Nicole and heads toward California in his convertible. Nicole complains she needs to urinate, and they search for a rest stop to pull over. The drive starts as a casual road trip that quickly takes a darker turn.

Nicole exits the rest stop building and realizes her boyfriend is missing. A deranged truck driver hurls Nicole's red cell phone from the convertible and insinuates that he has Jess. The threat feels immediate as the roadside scene grows tense.

Nicole searches for help and encounters an RV at the rest stop. She bangs on the door and is given a brief, eerie ride with its passengers. She is eventually thrown out for staring at the deformed figure hidden in the back.

Back in the restroom area, Nicole encounters Tracy who warns about the deranged killer. A missing person poster confirms that Tracy has been missing since 1971. The clues heighten the sense that something ancient and murderous lurks here.

The man in the yellow truck evades Nicole while a motorcycle cop arrives on the scene. The driver quickly overpowers the officer, running him over, and Nicole is left scrambling for safety. The rest stop descends into chaos as the threat closes in on her.

The driver returns and locks Nicole and the injured officer inside the restroom. He bites off Nicole's finger, pushing her toward shock. The officer urges Nicole to shoot the driver when he returns, heightening the stakes.

The killer drops a video camera through the window, revealing Jess tortured with a knife and his tongue cut out. He begins pouring gasoline into the room via a hose, turning the bathroom into a death trap. Nicole fights to find an escape as the threat grows more intense.

Nicole uses a ceiling hatch to escape the burning restroom as the building erupts in flames. The officer tells her to use the two remaining bullets to kill the killer rather than be burned alive, and she fires into the door. Moments later, the building explodes and the officer's body seems to vanish in the smoke.

Morning nears as Nicole walks along the highway, the truck driver in pursuit. She grabs a whiskey bottle from a Park Ranger's station and fashions a Molotov cocktail. She hurls it at the truck, triggering a massive fire that engulfs the vehicle.

As the blaze subsides, the attacker in the yellow truck closes in and Nicole discovers the killer is not a separate monster but Jess, with his mouth sewn shut. The confrontation reframes who the threat really is and deepens the horror of the situation.

A new girl arrives at the renovated rest stop and finds Nicole in the maintenance area, where she is vomiting blood. The Park Ranger returns to his post and seems unaware of the danger still present. The scene hints at a cycle of horror continuing beyond the film's present moment.

The final montage shows the father from the RV burying Jess’s body, whispering This is our little secret to his deformed son. The yellow truck drives away along a deserted road, leaving the rest stop to its grim legend. The cycle of horror lingers even as the scene shifts to a new victim arriving at the rest stop.
