Ruslan Drachev Steven Seagal is a former Russian mobster and a current writer of hardboiled pulp fiction novels living in California when he gets a call from his ex-wife Catherine Inna Korobkina that his daughter Lanie Laura Mennell is getting married. He hops a red-eye to New Jersey and heads to Trenton to witness the ceremony, a trip that drags him back into a world he hoped to leave behind, full of old loyalties and looming dangers.
Ruslan is wary as he learns that Lanie is marrying Stephan Abramov [Dmitry Chepovetsky], the son of Mikhail Abramov [Igor Jijikine], the brutal boss of the local Russian mob. Stephan, trying to reassure his future father-in-law, stresses that he has no interest in the family business and only wants to love his bride and start a new life. The wedding day, however, is shadowed by the power dynamics and unspoken debts that tether these families together, and Ruslan senses that there is more at stake than a simple marriage.
Meanwhile, Catherine is now married to Terry Goldstein [Robert Wisden], a wealthy local defense attorney whose influence complicates the web of relationships around them. As the ceremony wanes and guests begin to disperse toward the church, the house of cards collapses: two intruders break in, Catherine is murdered, and Lanie is stabbed, leaving her in critical condition and triggering a furious, urgent fight for answers.
Detective Norden [Ingrid Torrance] and Detective Lavastic [Zak Santiago] take the lead on the case, trying to parse a crime that initially looks like a robbery gone wrong but feels personal to Ruslan. At East Lawn Hospital, Dr. Brown [Linda Minard] delivers a cautious prognosis, letting Ruslan know that Lanie has a real chance of recovery, even as the case grows more complex and dangerous.
Driven by a mix of paternal instinct and old grudges, Ruslan begins his own cross-border investigation, uncovering a motive rooted in old feuds and present greed. He learns that Mikhail despises his rival—the threat Ruslan represents—and that Terry, serving as Mikhail’s attorney, is implicated in the plot alongside a network of corrupt ambitions. Catherine’s plan to blow the whistle on Terry’s activities adds another layer of motive, tying the violence to power and profit.
As the investigation deepens, Ruslan faces a tightening noose of intimidation, shifting alliances, and brutal obstacles. He is determined to bring down those who orchestrated the attack, even if it means confronting the mob’s reach and the legal system that protects it. The hunt for truth becomes a tense, dangerous pursuit where every step forward raises the stakes for Ruslan, Lanie, and everyone caught in the crossfire. In the end, the question remains: how far will Ruslan go to ensure justice for his daughter and to settle old scores that refuse to stay buried?
