Jack McKee and Cecil Colson are a pair of young, restless rustlers whose thrill-seeking hides an undercurrent of boredom. Jack has walked away from his wealthy family and his wife Anna, while Cecil is marked by his Native American background. Across the way, John Brown and his wife Cora Brown ride the same current of disaffection. They used to run a beauty parlor in Schenectady, New York, and have since bought up much of the surrounding land in this corner of Montana. Cora Brown is perpetually bored and flirts with the ranch hands, Burt and Curt, though her interest never feels genuine, only performative, a distraction from the quiet emptiness of their wealth.
