Daisy Town

Crossing the plains, a wagon train stops to admire a lone daisy that grows out of the endless wasteland, and the expedition’s leader decides to honor the bloom by naming the newly formed settlement Daisy Town. Almost as soon as the town is completed, trouble streams in from every direction, drawing in outlaws, schemers, and hungry opportunists. Into this unsettled boomtown rides Lucky Luke on his horse, Jolly Jumper, ready to restore order with a calm resolve and a quick draw.

After quelling a flurry of saloon troubles and fending off a break-in on the trail, Luke heads to find a place to stay for the night. His clean, efficient way of handling ruffians wins him the attention—and the unease—of Daisy Town’s residents. By morning, the mayor and several townsfolk approach him with a blunt proposal: would he take on the role of Sheriff? Luke answers with a single, definite word: “Yep.”

Peace doesn’t last long. Word arrives that the notorious Dalton brothers are nearby, and they waste no time turning Daisy Town into a target. The Dalton clan—Joe Dalton, William Dalton, Jack Dalton, and Averell Dalton—begin robbing stores and even blowing up the local hotel. Luke urges the townspeople to stand up to them, but fear and apathy win out, and he is forced to resign as sheriff in disappointment.

The Daltons shift gears, campaigning for control of the town: Joe seeks the mayor’s seat, William aims for judge, and Jack runs for sheriff, while Averell—often portrayed as the gentler foil—becomes their campaign manager. Seizing the moment, Luke turns Averell against his brothers, exploiting the rift to inflame distrust among the townsfolk. The election devolves into chaos, the Daltons are tarred and feathered, and Daisy Town drives them out.

As punishment for their attempted tyranny, the Daltons are briefly captured by Indians. A ruse orchestrated by Joe Dalton—claiming the settlers’ arrival will devastate the prairie—stirs the chief into declaring war on Daisy Town. Yet the chief quickly discovers the Daltons’ deceit when a wanted poster points to them, and they end up blamed by their own kin.

Seeing an opportunity, Luke observes the tribe’s war preparations and crafts a bold plan to defend the town by misdirecting the Indians. He convinces them that the settlers are deserting Daisy Town, yet secretly loads the conestoga wagons with armed men. The Indians stage a fierce assault, but Luke orders the wagons to circle and then to turn around again and again. The dizzying maneuver unsettles the attackers, and after several twists the chief calls for a peace gathering, signaling a fragile truce.

With a tentative peace in place, the mayor raises a toast to Daisy Town’s bright future. But the moment is shattered by a local proclamation: gold has been found in the hills. The prospect of treasure draws every resident away, leaving Daisy Town a ghost town again. In a quiet, emblematic gesture, Lucky Luke plucks the daisy from the town’s sign and tucks it into Jolly Jumper’s mane, a final reminder of what was possible. The town’s sign topples into the dust as Luke rides off into the sunset, leaving a memory of order found and lost in the wild frontier.
