Somen, a lawyer and son of head priest Swami Dharam Bhushan Maharaj, champions equality and often clashes with Kedar Nath over temple governance. He stands up for justice even when it puts him at odds with powerful religious figures. His courage marks him as a reformer in a conservative system.

At the annual festival, Somen meets Kajri, a woman from a lower caste, and is immediately drawn to her. They fall in love despite social barriers that forbid their union. The separation afterwards leaves them longing and fuels a quiet, burning romance.

While traveling toward Bansipura, Kajri is kidnapped by a drunken assailant who assaults her, leaving her pregnant. The crime shatters her world and plants the seeds of profound social stigma. The event becomes the catalyst for the hardships she must endure.

Kajri gives birth in secret after being ostracized by her community. She begs for food so her child can be nourished, but the infant dies anyway. She seeks cremation from Swami Dharam Bhushan, who refuses, and Kajri ultimately buries the child in obscurity.

A year passes before Somen and Kajri meet again at Nandlal's dairy farm, and their old feelings begin to rekindle. Kajri remains evasive about her past, while she writes a letter explaining she was an unwed mother. Somen never reads the letter, leaving the truth untouched and their relationship strained.

Kedarnath escalates his ruthlessness by burning a woman alive to prevent her from filing a case against his ally, Roop Sahai. The act demonstrates how power tolerates violence to protect its own circle. The murder contributes to a climate of fear around Kajri and her lover.

During their engagement at Nandlal's dairy farm, Dharam Bhushan arrives and reveals that Kajri had asked him to cremate her dead child. Somen is shaken and leaves the scene, unable to process the revelation. Kajri returns to her village in distress as the weight of the past closes in.

Nandlal then presents Kajri's letter, making it clear that the tragedy was not her fault and exposing the social stigma she endured. Somen realizes how their society's judgments shaped Kajri's life and the choices she made. The revelation forces him to confront the injustice at the heart of their world.

Kajri's aunt Natho reveals that the man who raped Kajri is Roop Sahai, a figure connected to Kedarnath's circle. The confession adds a personal dimension to the fight for justice and rekindles Kajri's resolve. The knowledge shifts the focus from rumor to concrete culpability.

Kajri travels to Shreepur to tell Somen in concrete terms that Roop Sahai is the rapist. Their alliance becomes even more urgent as they prepare to challenge the powerful men who harmed Kajri. The confession sets the stage for a climactic reckoning.

On Dusshera, Kajri, Somen, and Baliram confront their attackers and burn Roop Sahai and Kedarnath. The act is a radical statement against corrupt power and a claim to justice for Kajri. Afterward, Somen and Kajri marry, sealing their union despite the years of hardship.
