The film revolves around a Zamindari clan led by Kalyan, Nageshwara Rao Akkineni, the second heir who leads a hedonistic, alcoholic life. On a routine flight, he meets Latha, Vanisri, an air hostess who also happens to be the sole breadwinner for an extended family. She senses the hollow rhythm of his lifestyle and agrees to take up a secretarial post, but only if he can temper his ways and respect her dignity. Their meeting sets the stage for a tense, evolving relationship where power dynamics and personal reform collide.

They travel to Kalyan’s estate palace, where he introduces Latha to his formidable family: his vainglorious mother Ranigaru, the sharp-tonged brother Kesava Varma, and the stern sister-in-law Indrani. Kesava Varma pretends to act in Kalyan’s interest and engineers a partition of the property, entrusting everything to Latha’s capable hands. Under her guidance, the estate runs with surprising efficiency, and Latha gradually sees through Kalyan’s quirks, recognizing a man of deeper integrity beyond the surface.

As time passes, Rani stirs trouble, accusing Kalyan of debauchery, while Latha remains determined to reform him. She pledges to help him change, and in the heat of a struggle, Rani wounds herself while trying to restrain Latha. When Kalyan discovers her blood, he shares a moment of grief with Latha, a turning point that exposes the childhood neglect he suffered from his mother and the nurturing influence of a woman he idolized, Aaya. This haunting memory pushes him toward self-destructive drinking, a vice he vows to abandon for Latha’s sake. In a bold gesture of devotion, he gifts Latha the palace Prem Nagar as a symbol of his enduring love and commitment.

Yet the couple’s happiness is fragile. Rani and Kesava Varma hatch a plot to drive them apart, fabricating a theft accusation against Latha. The charge strains Kalyan’s trust, and Latha withdraws from the relationship, leaving behind a wounded, faltering man. He eventually breaks free from the conspiracy and seeks her out, but she remains steadfast in her pride and self-respect, complicating his attempt to reconcile. The strain takes a toll on his health, and doctors advise him to drink as part of a ritual he has vowed to forsake. In a desperate move, Latha returns and asks him to declare that he no longer loves her, a demand he cannot meet. Instead, she yields to the elders’ arranged match, and Kalyan attends the wedding to silently bless Latha.

The bridal party, however, recoils, and Rani steps forward to absolve Latha by claiming her as a rightful daughter-in-law. The revelation unsettles all, and a lovesick Kalyan makes his way back to Prem Nagar, where he consumes poison. After a perilous hospitalization, he survives, and the story closes on a note of reconciliation, with the couple’s union ultimately realized—an ending that suggests healing and harmony after a tumultuous journey.
