Three years following the events of Pitch Perfect, the Barden Bellas have evolved under the leadership of Beca Mitchell and three-time super senior Chloe Beale. During this time, they have established themselves as ICCA champions for three consecutive years, thanks to their fresh, modern sound. However, their performance at President Obama’s birthday gala takes a disastrous turn when Fat Amy suffers a mishap during her solo act, which spirals into a nationwide scandal infamously dubbed “Muffgate.” As a consequence, the Bellas find themselves suspended from competing in the ICCAs and barred from holding auditions for new members.

Desperate to reinstate their competitive status, Beca negotiates a chance for redemption: if the Bellas can triumph at the 2015 World Championship of ACapella in Copenhagen, they can reclaim their place. This challenge is met with skepticism, as the acapella announcers John Smith and Gail Abernathy mockingly point out that no American group has ever won the championship.

Freshman Emily Junk embarks on her college journey at Barden University, aspiring to follow in her mother Katherine’s footsteps as a Bella. At orientation, she witnesses an impressive performance by the Treblemakers, now led by Beca’s boyfriend Jesse Swanson. As Emily meets Jesse and his best friend Benji Applebaum, who inadvertently develops a crush on her, the other Bellas realize they are facing competition from the formidable German champions, “Das Sound Machine” (DSM).

Determined to secure their spot in the spotlight, Emily auditions for the Bellas and successfully impresses them with her unfinished song “Flashlight.” Surprisingly, her unique situation lets her join without breaking the suspension rules. The Bellas then enjoy a party with the Treblemakers and other acapella groups, but Emily gently turns down Benji’s advances due to her first-day jitters, while Bumper Allen returns from his stint as a backup for John Mayer, now a security guard at Barden.

The following day, in a twist of fate, the Bellas confront their German rivals at a car show. They rehearse a powerhouse performance to boost their confidence for Worlds. Meanwhile, Beca impresses her boss with her mashup skills for a Christmas album featuring Snoop Dogg, but he urges her to focus on original content. This sets off a chain of stress for Beca, leading Fat Amy to lend support, especially after discovering the secret of Beca’s internship.

Embracing the pressure of their impending performance, disaster strikes when a recurring fire stunt accidentally scorches Cynthia-Rose’s hair. To recover their spirit, Chloe decides to take the Bellas to a retreat led by Aubrey Posen to rediscover their harmony. During this retreat, Emily confides in Katherine about her fears regarding the Bellas and her legacy. Together, they find solace in honesty, reaffirming their passion for the group and their futures.

As their tensions peak, Beca’s frustrations culminate in a revelation about her desire to break free from expectations and express her true self. With renewed solidarity, the Bellas bond over their dreams, leading to a beautiful rendition of “Cups.” Meanwhile, Fat Amy’s realization about her relationship with Bumper pushes her to express her feelings in an amusing, yet touching manner.

With the Bellas firmly united, they showcase their unique style during the World Championships, leading to a powerful rendition of “Flashlight” that captures the essence of their journey. Finally, after overcoming countless hurdles, the Bellas triumph at the competition, restoring their legacy and leaving a lasting impact before graduating.

In the mid-credits scene, we catch a glimpse of Bumper’s journey as he takes the stage on The Voice. As the journey continues, Emily prepares for her initiation into the Bellas with a humorous twist, ensuring that this chapter comes to a memorable close with laughter and heartfelt moments.
