Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night (1987) Timeline Explained – Every Event in Order

Pinocchio ran away because he felt deep shame after being tricked by Scalawag and Igor into trading the jewel box for a fake Pharaoh's Ruby. Geppetto's furious reaction overwhelmed Pinocchio, and rather than face his creator's disappointment, he fled into the night, leaving Willikers behind as a witness to his failure.

At the carnival, Puppetino used Twinkle the marionette to lure Pinocchio into a trap. While Pinocchio danced to the organ-grinder's music, puppet strings attached to his limbs, pulling him back toward puppet form. The Good Fairy intervened just in time, awakening Pinocchio and reminding him that freedom is a choice he must cherish.

The Emperor of the Night wanted Pinocchio to sign away his freedom because the power of choice is Pinocchio's greatest strength. With each oath Pinocchio signed, the Emperor could drain more of the Good Fairy's magic power. By becoming a puppet again, Pinocchio would lose his free will and the Good Fairy would be weakened.
