The film was directed by Giuliano Cenci, assisted by his brother Renzo. Production consulted Mario and Antonio Lorenzini, Carlo Collodi’s grandchildren. Animators used children's subtle fidgeting motions for Pinocchio, notably when he lies to the turquoise‑haired Fairy about his gold coins. The Fairy’s design draws on depictions of the Blessed Virgin.
