Alex writes a critical message and transfers it to a floppy disk, handing it to his dog PC with strict instructions to deliver it only to Susie and to trust no one. He hides PC away to keep the disk safe. The intruder Anja soon breaks in with Sibelius and threatens him about money.

Anja breaks in with the vicious Sibelius and demands the money. He tells her the funds are in his retirement account, but she murders him. After the crime, Anja notices the money is missing and spots the initials SA on a file name in the address book, triggering her to spy on Susie.

Anja starts following Susie from a distance, watching her neighbourly life. Her surveillance sets up the deeper connection between Susie, Zac, and PC. This signals the upcoming search for the missing money.

PC is struck by a car near Susie’s area and is taken in by Zac’s family, who have just moved to Sydney from Melbourne. Zac is a 14-year-old narrator who lives with his mother, Amy, stepfather Stephen, and younger sister Binky. The canine visitor from the accident becomes part of the household.

Zac, Susie, and Susie’s daughter Samantha recognize PC and form a connection with him. They learn of Alex’s death, and PC remains with Zac’s family while they sort things out. The dog’s presence pulls Susie back into the neighborhood’s mystery.

PC uses Zac's computer to create a translation program that can convert any language or sound, including barking, into plain English. He demonstrates it to Zac, who suggests giving PC a voice and outfits a palmtop computer with a microphone in a bow tie. The invention marks a turning point in how PC communicates.

PC tells Zac his backstory: he hails from Iceland and was married to Anja, who stole Alex's programs and profited. Alex fled to Australia with PC to escape her, but Anja eventually tracked them down. The revelation helps explain Anja's relentless pursuit of the clues.

Zac finds the floppy disk containing a clue to the money's location and heads with Sammy to Alex's flat. They complete a crossword on the computer to trigger a video of Alex saying 'A note to follow so' and showing a pea-like object. Another message tells them the password is LAP and that 'the rest is in and under your nose. Bonne Chance'.

Anja arrives and threatens them with a dagger; Zac deletes the file to stop her, but she kidnaps PC. The stakes rise as the chase moves beyond the flat and into the wider pursuit.

Back home, Stephen agrees to help them and they go to the greyhound track where Alex and Susie worked. PC tricks Sibelius into letting him out of the cage, but when Zac comes to help him, Sibelius lets out Anja's dog, who chases them.

Sammy deciphers the clue 'LAP in' as the French word for rabbit, sending PC catapulting into the commentator's box. He proclaims that the money is in the rabbit, and Anja misreads the hint as money being in the mechanical rabbit. She tears the rabbit apart but is dragged around the track in the wild chase.

Binky discovers Sammy's Hollywood pin badge that Alex gave her. Sammy explains that Hollywood refers to Los Angeles, clarifying the clue. They realize the LA pin hides jewelry and finally uncover the missing pieces.

The film ends with PC sharing a moment with Sammy's dog Cordelia, a quirky and unexpected closing note. The unlikely trio of Zac, PC, and the kids conclude their adventure on a light, surreal beat.
