The starship Avalon embarks on its monumental journey to relocate over 5,000 colonists and 238 crew members to the planet Homestead II. This mass exodus is a response to the devastating consequences of Ecocide and Earth's biospheric collapse, spanning an astonishing 120 years in transit.

While aboard, a critical malfunction occurs when the Avalon navigates an asteroid field. A barrage of space debris severely damages the ship's energy shield, resulting in an event that triggers the premature awakening of Jim Preston, a mechanical engineer, who finds himself alone 90 years ahead of schedule.

Realizing he is the only one awake, Jim struggles with his isolated existence. With limited access to the ship's facilities and delayed communication with Earth, which takes 19 years for messages to arrive, he grapples with despair while attempting to fix his hibernation pod.

During his year of isolation, Jim engages with Arthur, an android bartender, who becomes his only companion. This connection offers Jim some semblance of normalcy as he faces the crushing reality of his solitude, even contemplating drastic measures to escape his situation.

Jim discovers Aurora Lane, encased in her hibernation pod, and is captivated by her personality from her video profile. After much internal conflict and a discussion with Arthur, he decides to revive her under the guise of a malfunction, hoping for companionship in their shared plight.

Upon waking, Aurora is initially charmed but soon devastated to learn she was manipulated into awakening and would age before reaching Homestead II. Both she and Jim struggle to cope with their reality, yet they gradually find solace together despite their circumstances.

As time passes, Jim and Aurora develop a deep bond, engaging in activities like video games and space excursions. Despite the looming crisis aboard the ship, they cherish moments of happiness, with Aurora enjoying the conveniences of being a gold class passenger, which Jim was denied.

Their relationship faces a test when a slip of Arthur's digital tongue reveals the truth about Jim's decision to awaken Aurora. Tensions rise as the couple grapples with betrayal and the realization of their precarious situation amidst malfunctions starting to spiral out of control.

A new passenger, Gus, a Chief Deck Officer, awakens under dire circumstances, providing Jim and Aurora with an opportunity for hope. By accessing Gus's personnel code, they unlock the bridge of the Avalon and discover alarming failures threatening the ship's safety.

As Gus's health declines due to Pansystemic Necrosis, he reveals the ship's critical failures caused by the earlier asteroid collision. He hands over his ID badge to Jim, empowering him and Aurora to tackle the ship's growing crises and avert catastrophe.

Jim bravely performs a dangerous spacewalk to vent a runaway plasma reaction, risking his life to save the ship and its occupants. Aurora's unwavering support fuels his courage as he navigates the perils of space, determined to protect their future.

After an intense struggle, Jim is rescued by the ship's Autodoc following the successful repair of the reactor. With the ship's systems restored, Jim learns he can offer Aurora the chance to hibernate again, but she chooses to remain awake with him instead.

In a tender moment, Jim presents a makeshift engagement ring to Aurora on the ship as a testament of their love and shared journey. She joyfully accepts, marking a new beginning in their lives despite the challenges they have faced together.

Fast forward 88 years, the Avalon finally arrives at Homestead II, awakening its passengers and crew to a breathtaking new world. They are greeted with nature's wonders, alongside a heartfelt narration of the extraordinary life and love Jim and Aurora built during their long voyage.
