Dee’s life in Bulusan represents a return to simplicity and genuine happiness, which she finds through her connection with her family, friends, and the land. As her vacation nears its end, she faces a choice: return to her busy Manila life or stay in the small town that has rekindled her sense of joy and purpose. Though Edong confesses his feelings and hopes she will stay, Dee ultimately decides to leave. She chooses her career and city life over the idyllic life she has found in Bulusan, reinforced by her decision to return to Manila and her future plans. However, just as she prepares to leave, Edong’s feelings become more evident as he pleads with her to stay, emphasizing how much she means to him. Dee’s decision is final, and she departs, leaving Edong behind.

The story takes a tragic turn after Dee’s departure. She and Edong share a loving connection, but this happiness is fleeting. Not long after, Edong goes out to ocean to save Manny, who is intoxicated and in danger. Tragically, Edong drowns in the process, sacrificing himself in an act of bravery and love. This loss devastates Dee, who had just begun to imagine a future with Edong and to build a life together. Despite her grief, she cannot retrieve his body, and after days of searching, she accepts that he is gone. The film ends with Dee mourning Edong’s death, reminding viewers of how fragile happiness can be and how even the most perfect-seeming lives can be shattered unexpectedly, illustrating the unpredictable nature of life and love.
