After a prison stretch tied to Triad troubles and years of financial hardship, he works as a taxi driver, scraping by as the world seems to move on. When Triad loan sharks torch his taxi and close in for money he owes, Fai makes a desperate decision to flee to Macau, hoping to put the dangerous past behind him.

In Macau, Fai takes a new path that contrasts with his violent history. He accepts a job as an assistant at a local gym, sharing a modest room with a feisty young woman named Peidan, Crystal Lee who has been the steady caregiver for her psychologically unstable mother, Mei Ting, since her four-year-old brother drowned and her husband walked out. The atmosphere at the gym is rough but hopeful, and it’s there that Fai crosses paths with Lin Siqi, Eddie Peng Yu-Yan, a determined young man who dreams of mastering Mixed Martial Arts to enter the upcoming “Golden Rumble,” a tournament promising huge prize money. Lin believes the win could rescue his father, a once-successful businessman who lost everything and now faces despair and drink to cope with it all.

In a harsh twist, social services determine that Peidan should be placed under state care, and her father arrives to claim custody; the situation escalates when her mother retaliates against a social worker, landing her in a mental hospital. Lin faces a brutal, punishing rival and suffers devastating injuries—his arm and neck take a brutal toll, and the fight ends in a painful defeat.
