Marek accepts the role of messiah and leads a military campaign against the telepathic bird-like Sherns, the planet's native inhabitants. He tries to unite the human factions under a single leadership to defeat the alien threat. The campaign blends myth with colonial warfare.

On Earth, it is revealed that Marek was sent because his actress girlfriend was sleeping with officer Jacek, and they wanted to remove him to continue their affair. The backstory casts Marek's mission as political manipulation rather than pure salvation. This revelation reframes the entire mission.

Early in Marek's campaign, humans capture Avius, the Shern leader, signaling a potential turning point. The capture boosts morale but foreshadows the challenges ahead. The battle lines are drawn between the colonists and the Sherns.

The planned landing in the Shern city ends in disaster, undermining the campaign's momentum. The failure shakes the priests' confidence and complicates Marek's leadership. The conflict with the Sherns intensifies.

As the campaign falters, the priests decide Marek is an Earth outcast rather than the promised messiah. They stone him and crucify him, ending the public campaign and sealing his fate. This act completes the tragic arc of Marek's mission.
