Pim and his mother, Yvette, live a peaceful life in the Belgian countryside, accompanied by their playful dog, Mirza. Yvette, a lonely divorcee, often fills her time playing the piano accordion and socializing at a local bar named Texas.

During a visit to a fair, Pim and Yvette meet a charming traveling carny named Zoltan. Pim is enthralled by Zoltan's kindness, marking the beginning of a significant admiration for the carny.
