No Man's Land

A Bosnian patrol finds themselves disoriented in the evening fog, unable to determine their location. After a restless night, they awaken to discover their unsettling proximity to a Serbian trench, not realizing the danger that lurks nearby.

As the fog lifts, the Bosnian patrol is caught off-guard when the Serbs open fire. The ambush results in the deaths of almost all the patrol members, leaving only two Bosnian soldiers to flee into the no man's land.

Following the ambush, a Serbian officer sends two volunteers, Nino and an older soldier, to investigate the middle trench. Unbeknownst to Nino, who is new, the surrounding area is fraught with dangers that could prove fatal.

The remaining Bosnian soldiers communicate the dire situation to their headquarters, anxiously awaiting instructions. Meanwhile, the tension in the middle trench begins to mount as the soldiers await their next move.

Ciki, a Bosnian soldier, regains consciousness in the middle trench and realizes he must find his way back to safety. However, the trench is littered with booby traps, making his escape perilous.

Ciki hides from Nino and his older companion as they survey the area. As the Serbs discover another wounded Bosnian, they place a landmine beneath him, escalating the already dangerous situation.

After observing the Serbs' brutal tactics, Ciki emerges from hiding and attacks, resulting in the death of the older soldier and severe injuries to Nino. The chaos leaves Ciki in a critical situation as he runs out of ammunition.

With both soldiers caught in a dangerous standoff, Ciki and Nino face each other in the trench. As the night approaches, both attempt to negotiate a way out, aware that they are being watched by both sides.

After learning of the trapped soldiers, journalist Jane Livingstone arrives at a Bosnian barricade and begins to exert media pressure on the UN forces to intervene. Her presence proves crucial in shifting the priorities of the UN command.

French Sergeant Marchand of UNPROFOR decides to act against orders from his superiors who initially want him to remain passive. Acknowledging the dire situation, he heads towards the middle trench to assess how to save the trapped soldiers.

Upon reaching the middle trench, Marchand learns that Cera is trapped on a bouncing mine, making extraction impossible. After calling his commanding officer for help, he receives orders to withdraw, further complicating the rescue.

The already fraught situation deteriorates as Ciki and Nino, now armed equally, argue over their fates, calling for assistance from their respective sides. The potential for violence looms as both sides anticipate a rescue attempt.

Livingstone's report on the media causes a shift in the UNPROFOR's approach, prompting high command to send Marchand back with a mine expert. The ensuing chaos at the trench is compounded by the presence of the press.

As tensions among the soldiers reach a boiling point, Ciki shoots Nino after a heated argument. In the crossfire, a peacekeeper shoots Ciki, illustrating the futility of their conflict and the tragic reality of their situation.

Despite the UN intervention, it is revealed that Cera is left behind, still immobilized by the mine. The UN command fabricates a narrative to save face, leaving a haunting reminder of the tragedies of war and the failures of those meant to protect.
