Night of the Comet

A comet, which hasn't been seen near Earth for 65 million years, is set to make its return. This rare astronomical event creates a mix of excitement and apprehension among people, leading them to celebrate or seek refuge from its potential disastrous effects.

Eighteen-year-old Regina Belmont, while working as a theater usher, informs her stepmother Doris that she will be out with her science class at the observatory. Instead, she secretly plans to spend the night with her semi-boyfriend Larry in the theater's projection room.

At home, Regina’s younger sister, Samantha, confronts their stepmother Doris, accusing her of infidelity while their father is deployed. The confrontation escalates to Doris physically striking Samantha, causing her to storm out in anger.

The next morning, Regina and Larry wake up to find that the film he was waiting for has not been returned. When Larry goes to look for it, Regina occupies herself with arcade games, blissfully unaware of the horrors lurking outside.

Upon arriving at the radio station, Regina and Samantha encounter Hector Gomez, who suspiciously holds a revolver to ensure they are not infected. His personal experience of survival adds depth to their quest, and he becomes an ally in their search for safety.

The sisters, alongside Hector, receive a distressing report from scientists in a bunker, revealing that the comet's effects have rendered most of humanity in peril. These revelations add a sense of urgency to their situation as they seek refuge.
