New Police Story

Five youths rob a bank with the intention of shooting police officers. Chief Inspector Chan Kwok-wing and his squad pursue them, but the raid ends with the squad wiped out, including Hong, the younger brother of Chan's girlfriend Ho Yee. Chan is the sole survivor and takes a year-long leave from the force to drink away his grief.

After a year away, Chan returns when he apprehends two youths who robbed him while he was drunk. This incident motivates him to reopen the case, and Frank Cheng tries to persuade him to come back to the police and pursue the gang.

Chief Inspector Chiu Chan questions Chan's overconfidence and challenges them to solve the case before he does. The challenge raises the stakes and pushes Chan to prove himself.

Former colleague Sam Wong provides a crucial clue from the first robbery, including a watch he snatched from a robber. He notes that one attacker is a woman and that the gang enjoys online games and X-game style raids. He also mentions that Joe, the gang's leader, is the son of the Deputy Commissioner, and that the gang comes from wealthy families.

Chan and Frank are tailed by Chiu and the police during an upcoming X-Games event. Sam Wong is arrested to assist in the investigation, heightening tension as the case grows in complexity.

At the skyscraper rooftop event, Chan and Frank locate Fire and, with Sam, find Sue. Fire fatally wounds Sam and escapes with Sue, while Sam confesses he was blackmailed by the gang to ambush Chan's team.

Superintendent Tai reveals that he never assigned a partner to Chan. Chan confronts Frank, who admits he failed the police exam and is not a cop nor kin of a deceased squad member. Chan remains wary but is later informed by Sa Sa that the gang is drawn from wealthy families.

The gang's online video games, based on their raids, deepen the mystery as investigators realize the scale and sophistication of the operation. Joe, the gang's leader, is identified as the son of a Deputy Commissioner, reinforcing the power dynamics at play.

At the gang's new hideout, Joe kills Sue, who had been wounded earlier in the pursuit. The gang plants a bomb on Ho Yee and sends her to the police station; the blast knocks Ho Yee into a coma, escalating the stakes for Chan and Frank.

Frank's false identity leads to Chan and Frank's arrest, but they are unofficially released to continue pursuing the gang. The pair press on despite legal jeopardy to stop the criminals.

Using the online game as a guide, Chan, Frank, and Sa Sa learn that the gang's next target is the Bank of Hong Kong. To prevent another botched raid, Chan orders the public removed from the building and brings in the gang members' parents for leverage and accountability.

During the Bank of Hong Kong raid, Joe's gang intensifies the confrontation: Max is killed for surrendering, and Frank injures Fire. Tin Tin is shot by Joe's friendly fire, heightening the danger as Chan and the officers close in on the rooftop.

Chan and Joe duel atop the building as a race to assemble a semi-automatic pistol unfolds. Joe fires at Chan and aims at his father, but when Chan defeats him, Joe commits suicide by cop. Chan and Frank rush to rescue each other and fall from the roof onto a fireman's inflated cushion.

Joe's father resigns in the wake of the scandal. In the hospital, Ho Yee recovers and accepts Chan's marriage proposal. Frank is arrested for assumption of authority, and Chan remembers comforting the orphaned Frank as a child after Frank's father was killed, explaining why he wanted to repay Chan.
