Mak Kwan, Francis Ng Chun-Yu, is a bomb expert and a highly wanted criminal whose notoriety grows after he kills his partner. His latest caper doesn’t go as planned when he is arrested by Inspector Pao Wai Hung, Sean Lau, a seasoned officer who bears the weight of an accidental killing that haunts him. The arrest sets off a chain of daring moves and shifting loyalties that pull in a dangerous underworld of power players and family ties.
Chung Lai-hung, Amanda Lee Wai-Man, Mak’s girlfriend and conspirator, tips off the head of the gang that Mak is in police hands. The warning sparks a bold rescue bid from the Taiwanese clan’s leader, Zang, Jack Kao, who is terrified Mak might spill their plans. Zang teams up with his crew and Chan Wah, Mak’s cousin, Raymond Cho Wing-Lim, to spring Mak from custody. As the countdown begins, Inspector Pao steels himself for another confrontation, knowing the criminal network will stop at nothing to protect its secrets.
But the pursuit proves brutal: Zang’s plans falter when his men kill Yung, Peter Kam-Cheong Yung, a subordinate of Pao, and the pressure on the police mounts. Pao and his partner, Chin Ka-Lok, vow revenge as the city sits on high alert for any sign of Mak or Zang’s crew. The violence spills into everyday life when Chan Wah is killed by Zang’s men, and his body is tucked into a radiator to manufacture a false frame against Pao.
Mak escapes from prison with help from a fellow inmate, and the chase lifts to a high-stakes showdown at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, where Pao lies in wait. Mak responds with calculated moves, dragging Lai-hung along and forcing her into the heart of the money grab. The escape becomes a ruthless game of levers and loyalties as Mak and Lai-hung seize the prize, while Zang races to claim the entire fortune for himself. The pursuit culminates in a deadly exchange between Mak and Pao, a moment that tests loyalties and guts.
As the smoke clears, Pao fires at Lai-hung, and the wounds of loss ripple through Mak’s conscience. Unable to endure the pain of Lai-hung’s death, Mak takes a final, irreversible step and shoots himself. The City of Hong Kong holds its breath in the aftermath, where vengeance leaves scars that no victory can erase, and the cost of loyalty, crime, and justice lingers long after the final shot.
