Naked

In a Manchester alley, Johnny has sex with a woman. She initially encourages him but then protests that he is hurting her and pushes him away. She vows that Bernard will get vengeance on him.

Johnny grabs his things from his apartment, steals a car, and flees to Dalston in east London. He seeks refuge at Louise's home there, his former girlfriend from Manchester.

Johnny arrives at Louise's flat in Dalston and she is unhappy to see him. Louise shares the home with two flatmates, Sophie, her hippy-dippy friend, and Sandra, the nurse who is away in Zimbabwe.

Johnny seduces Sophie while Louise treats him with cold indifference. The uneasy dynamic reveals Johnny's volatile charm and Sophie's vulnerability.

He walks around central London, expounding his bleak worldview to anyone who will listen. The sermons blend cynicism with a casual ruthlessness as he drifts from encounter to encounter.

Johnny meets Archie, a young Scottish man on Brewer Street looking for his girlfriend Maggie, and Brian, a security guard at a vacant office building. He talks about moving to a seaside cottage and rejects conventional life.

He pursues a drunken woman and, upon noticing a skull tattoo on her shoulder, rejects her advances. The encounter underscores his pattern of using and discarding people.

He follows a young cafe worker home, but she grows upset and throws him out. The rejection heightens his isolation and sense of entitlement.

He hitches a ride with a man posting posters around town; the man, exasperated by Johnny's haranguing, knees him in the groin and drives off with Johnny's duffel bag containing his clothes and books.

Johnny wanders the streets and is severely beaten by a wandering gang of thugs. The assault leaves him badly injured and dependent on others.

Back at Louise's residence, the landlord Jeremy, a psychopathic rapist, enters and rapes Sophie, tossing several hundred pounds at her for the act. Louise returns and is horrified by the state of the house and the assault.

Johnny arrives home in awful shape. Louise and Sophie try to keep him quiet, but a violent fit wakes Jeremy when he is roused from sleep.

Sandra returns early from Zimbabwe, sees the chaos, tends to Johnny's injuries, and briefly, the tension with Jeremy, who departs.

Louise and Johnny seem to reconcile and discuss returning to Manchester, but when Louise leaves for work, Johnny steals the money Jeremy tossed at Sophie and hobbles away into the streets.
