Mystery House

Banker Hubert Kingery reveals that someone forged documents and embezzled $500,000 in front of five officers at the hunting lodge. The accusation sows distrust and paranoia among the guests. The mood is tense as the retreat's purpose turns from leisure to suspicion.

Before the evening ends, Kingery is shot dead and the police declare it a suicide. Gwen refuses to accept the ruling and asks for help from her aunt's nurse, Sarah Keate. Sarah suggests her detective boyfriend, Lance O'Leary, take the case.

Lance gathers all suspects back to the lodge and begins his investigation. He tells them that one of the attendees is connected to multiple murders. The group is effectively trapped as heavy snow seals them inside.

Shortly after the guests depart for an afternoon of hunting, Helen Page dies in what seems to be a suicide. Lance investigates and discovers that she was strangled and then shot after death to make the death look like suicide.

Gwen visits Gerald Frawley in his room, but after she leaves, Gerald removes his toupee and is shot just as Kingery was. The killing mirrors the earlier murder and deepens the mystery.

Sarah finds a letter from Gerald to Gwen stating that the key to a safe is hidden in his toupee. The discovery links the toupee to the ongoing attempt to access Kingery's safe.

Lance tricks Lucy Kingery into revealing that she can walk. She confesses stealing Gerald's toupee, which has the combination to Kingery's safe written inside it.

As soon as Lance and Lucy leave the room, Bruker the family chauffeur rushes in and copies the safe combination from the toupee. The act heightens suspicion around Bruker and his access.

Lance investigates the safe and catches Bruker in the act of opening it. He learns Bruker had previously stolen money from Kingery's office six years earlier and was made to sign a confession. He also notes a gun on the wall rigged to fire if the door is bolted.

Lance brings all suspects into the office and bolts the door, declaring that one person is the killer. Barre attacks Lance and flees, leading to a chaotic struggle with Bruker and a dog attack. Lucy accidentally strikes Lance with a vase, and the other men manage to restrain Barre.

Lance discovers a paper in Kingery's safe accusing Barre of forging securities to fund Helen's lifestyle. He learns that Gerald had told Helen about the crime, making both Barre's victims.

Sarah tends to Lance's head wound and the case's truth is tied together. With Barre exposed, Lucy reveals she can walk and asks for medicine; Lance and Sarah share a kiss as the night ends.
