The discovery triggers a confrontation when Detective Taggart and Detective Burns arrive, closing in on Pontos. Pontos awakens, seizes a gun, and a tense shootout erupts. The truth of their plan seems to be coming into focus, and so does a new lead: a newspaper snippet reveals that a magnate has offered a substantial reward—$100,000 for each of two wax cylinder recordings made by the legendary Jenny Lind just before her death.
