Raja Malayasimman watches Ranganayaki perform and is struck by love when a garland she throws lands on him. He later learns she is vulnerable and vows to protect her after witnessing her being harassed by a local chief. This moment sets the romance and danger in motion.

Seeing the harassment, Raja tasks his charioteer Muthu with rescuing Ranganayaki. Muthu prepares to intervene and confront the threat posed by the village chief's goons. This decision anchors Muthu as the protector of Ranganayaki.

Muthu confronts the village chief's men and defeats them to secure Ranganayaki's safety. The struggle proves his courage and deepens their bond. The danger continues to loom as more assailants appear.

Raja instructs Muthu to take Ranganayaki away in a two-horse chariot while he keeps the attackers busy. They race away from danger, relying on stealth and speed to reach safety. The escape marks the start of their perilous journey.

The couple lands in Kerala, where the language barrier complicates their situation. Muthu, who cannot speak Malayalam, accidentally asks passersby for a kiss, provoking trouble. Ranganayaki comes to his rescue and explains the misunderstanding.

As they navigate their separation and danger, the bond between Muthu and Ranganayaki deepens into love. They decide to return to Raja's palace, hoping for acceptance within the royal household. Their rekindled romance shifts the story toward a more intimate alliance.

Ranganayaki, escaping her abusive brother-in-law Pratap Rayudu who killed her sister, begs to stay at the palace. Her associates join her, seeking protection from danger. The palace becomes a focal point of marriage politics and loyalty.

Ambalathar, Raja's maternal uncle, plots to seize the estate by marrying Raja to his daughter Padmini. He enlists allies and accelerates the plan to place the wealth under his control. The scheme sets up a high-stakes power struggle at the palace.

Raja reveals his wish to marry Ranganayaki, upsetting Ambalathar's plans. Sivakami argues for Padmini’s marriage, while she secretly informs Ambalathar of the king's intent. The conflict over marriage aligns with the fight for control of the estate.

Kaali misinterprets Muthu and Ranganayaki's distance as an attempt to force a marriage, fueling Ambalathar's plot. Believing the ruse, Raja expels Muthu from the palace and has him beaten by Kaali. The betrayal fractures trust within the royal circle.

Sivakami returns from a temple with Ranganayaki and discloses that Muthu was raised as a commoner and that the zamindar, believed dead, is alive nearby. She admits she lied to protect Muthu. Raja resolves to find the zamindar to set things right.

Kaali overhears Ambalathar's plan to kill Raja and frame Muthu. He beats Raja and throws him into a waterfall, claiming Muthu is responsible. Muthu defeats Kaali and forces him to disclose Ambalathar's plot, turning the village's loyalties against the conspirator.

The villagers chase Ambalathar away as the zamindar arrives to rescue Raja. Raja marries Padmini, and the elder statesman forgives Ambalathar. The true lineage begins to surface, setting the stage for Muthu's fate.

Raja shares Muthu's true lineage with him, prompting Muthu to rush to meet the zamindar. He discovers the elder is already gone, leaving him to confront his inherited role alone. This moment culminates with Muthu choosing a humble life despite the title ahead of him.
