Mountaintop Motel Massacre

Evelyn, freshly released from the psychiatric institution, returns to rural Louisiana and discovers her daughter Lorie practicing witchcraft in their basement. In a fit of rage she stabs Lorie to death. Afterwards she deceives the authorities, claiming she had nothing to do with her daughter's death, while suspicion begins to swirl around her.

The Mountaintop Motel stands adjacent to Evelyn's home, a cluster of outdoor cabins that she had rented out as motel rooms before her institutionalization. The motel's rundown state foreshadows the chaos to come. Evelyn's past ownership links her to the property as the tenants begin arriving.

One morning, Reverend Bill McWiley arrives at the Mountaintop Motel and rents one of the rooms. He settles in, unaware of the danger surrounding the property. The stay marks the first human guest tied to the motel's unfolding nightmare.

Shortly after the Reverend's arrival, Robin Crewshaw checks in and takes a room. The two men exchange observations about the cabins' dilapidated condition and share a drink, setting a tense, uneasy mood. The motel becomes a crossroads for the other guests who will soon arrive.

Newlyweds Vernon and Mary pass through on a road trip and rent one of the motel cabins. They are drawn into the stormy night and the motel's looming danger as they settle in. Their stay will quickly intersect with the other guests' fates.

On the rain-soaked highway, cousins Prissy and Tanya have their car break down and are picked up by Al, a man posing as a record producer. He lures them to the motel in hopes of taking advantage of them. They arrive as night falls, adding to the motel's perilous mix.

Mary tends to Vernon, who has been bitten by a snake Evelyn planted earlier. The phone in their room is dead, preventing a quick call for help. Al offers to use his car phone to contact the police, trying to buy time in the worsening crisis.

While the storm rages, Reverend McWiley is awakened by rats crawling on his bed, and Crewshaw wakes to cockroaches crawling over him. The motel becomes a hive of fear as the guests struggle to sleep. The sense of danger deepens as the storm isolates them.

Evelyn enters the bathroom through a trapdoor linked to a tunnel network and slashes Prissy's throat with a sickle. Startled, Tanya opens the door to a blood-slick scene and discovers Prissy is missing. Al reports Prissy's disappearance to Mary and Crewshaw.

Crenshaw informs the Reverend that he will come to Crenshaw's cabin, but Evelyn strikes first, stabbing him through the chest with the sickle. The motel community's fear escalates as the killer roams unseen. The Reverend's death signals the collapse of any remaining comfort.

Evelyn breaches Mary and Vernon's room and kills them in a brutal assault. Mary is impaled through the face, and Vernon is slashed across the throat as he lies helpless. The motel's tragedy compels Al and Crewshaw to react.

Al and Crewshaw descend into the tunnels beneath the motel to locate Evelyn, who has disappeared from the main offices. Their pursuit underscores the claustrophobic nightmare that has overtaken the property. The tunnels become the battleground for the final confrontations.

Inside the tunnels, Evelyn attacks Crewshaw, severing his hand before slashing his throat. The escapees' hope of safety drains away as the killer closes in. The sheriff's arrival inches closer to the truth, but danger remains.

A sheriff arrives and pursues Evelyn into the tunnels. She attacks him, and when a beam collapses, the sickle is hurled into her throat, killing her. Dawn seems to be approaching as the final threat ends.

Al and Tanya leave with the sheriff in tow as dawn breaks. An apparition of Evelyn's daughter Lorie watches them from the woods, while the motel vacancy sign lights up, signaling the end of the nightmare and an eerie reminder of what remains unseen.
