Leung, the waiter from their regular restaurant, sits with the Fook Sung gang as they unwind and swap stories about life in the triads, listening with a patient smile as the tales grow louder and more reckless as the night wears on. The chatter, however, nudges fate toward trouble when an offhand remark about the Lo Fung gang’s girlfriends sparks a scuffle that leaves Leung-ping with a wounded hand. The aftershocks of that clash ripple through the crew, forcing them to confront the fragile balance between honor and restraint.

At a formal meeting meant to calm tensions, the gang’s steady-handed leader, Long Ching, arrives and handles the matter with a cool, calm practicality that surprises everyone. The conflict seems to diffuse, and Leung-ping finds himself welcome within the fold of the Fook Sung gang. In this moment of acceptance, he also learns something that shifts his feelings: Ching has a pregnant wife, Chu May-yee; she is not only the partner of a rival but also someone he once admired in his youth, turning this revelation into a personal connection that complicates loyalties and loyalties’ expectations.

Across the city, the shadow of rival power grows sharper. Lui Lone, a bisexual actor and the leader of a rival faction, discovers that a member of his enemy’s circle, Peter, has been spreading rumors designed to damage his reputation. In a brutal show of force, Lui Lone’s group strikes back, abducting Leung-ping rather than Peter. The humiliation and fear that follow push Leung-ping into a dangerous orbit, where survival instincts clash with a desire to protect those caught in the crossfire.

Under duress, Lui Lone tries to coerce Leung-ping into submitting to a grim test of disease-free status—forcing a sexual act as proof. The act is an act of cruelty that pushes Leung-ping to seek help from Chu May-yee, though she hopes to resolve the conflict through peaceful means, preferring dialogue over force. Her stance sows seeds of anger in Leung-ping, who feels pushed toward a more aggressive path by the looming threat and the coercive brutality he’s endured.

The tension crescendos when Peter, acting as a pragmatist amid escalating anger, leads a move to desecrate Lui Lone’s beloved father’s grave. This insult to a man’s memory draws a sharp reaction from Long Ching, who, despite his earlier peaceful approach, is driven by the need to protect dignity and family honor. He gives Lui Lone money to improve the grave, a gesture that momentarily eases the pressure but cannot erase the underlying bitterness that fuels each side’s next moves. Soon after, the fragile peace shatters: the two clans collide in a ferocious melee, and in the chaos, Lui Lone shoots Long Ching, while his followers cut down the rest.

Funerals, with their own quiet, stark rituals, follow the violence. Ching’s funeral is sparsely attended, a stark reminder of how quickly a world of loyalty and brotherhood can become a landscape of absence. Lui Lone attends in disguise, feared and recognized, and a fragile truce nearly surfaces but is undone by the stubborn pain that lingers in both camps. May-yee, worn down by the endless feuds, makes it clear she is tired of the fighting; she tells those present that she will not be drawn into the cycle any longer. Lui Lone offers to take on responsibility for her and the child, a gesture meant to anchor a fragile possibility of peace, but she refuses.

The feud spills into the street in an almost surreal, cinematic moment as the Fook Sung gang targets Lui Lone while he is filming a movie scene on a public street. Leung-ping gives chase, pursuing Lui Lone into an alley where an ambush by robbers turns their pursuit into a desperate confrontation. The robbers take their cash and phones and tie the two men together, but Lui Lone manages to break free and tries to coerce Leung-ping into a return of the earlier coercion. When Leung-ping spits on him, the anger in Lui Lone boils over, threatening to mutilate him. In that instant of explosive tension, one of the robbers strikes a fatal blow from behind, stabbing Lui Lone in a moment of brutal irony: the hatred that fueled so much violence becomes the cause of his death. Lui Lone’s plea for help—to call the police—dies with him, and Leung-ping faces a world where his ally’s life ends as the night finally closes in.

The film threads together these moments with a stark, unflinching lens on loyalty, power, and the costs of relentless conflict. It sketches a world where a simple night out can spiral into a chain of choices that redefine a man’s sense of duty, a family’s future, and a community’s hope for an uneasy peace. The characters grapple with memory and desire, with the pull of old crushes and the weight of new responsibilities, all while the line between right and wrong becomes increasingly blurred in the heat of rivalry and violence.
