We are introduced to the Ryan family, which consists of Brent, Kendall, and their two children, Carly and Josh. Their strained relationships are evident, as Carly resents her father's disapproval of her boyfriend and her mother's perceived disconnect.

Carly is forced to cancel dinner plans with her boyfriend Damon due to a visit from her grandparents. This adds to her pent-up frustration and tension within the family, enhancing her rebellious spirit.

While at school, Carly experiences a strange transmission of static on all media, which heralds chaos. The atmosphere quickly shifts as parents turn violent, leading to a horrifying attack at the school.

In a shocking turn of events, the Ryans' housekeeper murders her own daughter right in front of young Josh. This gruesome act marks a clear escalation in the hysteria that has gripped the parents around them.

As parents descend upon the school with murderous intent, Carly and her best friend Riley manage to escape. However, their relief is short-lived when Riley's mother turns on her, resulting in Riley’s tragic death.

Carly encounters Damon, who confesses that the frenzy seems directed only at their own children. Together, they decide to seek safety for Carly's younger brother Josh and find a secure location.

Kendall visits the hospital to support her sister during childbirth when the sinister static causes chaos. This leads her sister to attempt to harm her newborn baby, showcasing the pervasive madness caused by the signal.

As the mass hysteria overwhelms the community, Kendall races home to protect her children. Meanwhile, Brent, unaware of the events unfolding, returns from work, completely oblivious to the danger.

Facing imminent danger, Carly sets a trap at the basement door using matches to ignite the gas that Brent and Kendall plan to use. The resulting explosion incapacitates the parents and gives the children a chance for escape.

With the explosion creating chaos, Carly and Josh try to navigate the house while Damon attempts to help them. However, Kendall rises again and violently attacks Damon, revealing the depths of her madness.

Brent's parents arrive for dinner, but as the chaos unfolds, they too succumb to the hysteria and join the fray, attacking their own son. This amplifies the horror as family bonds dissolve into violence.

In a desperate bid for survival, Brent crashes his car, killing his parents in the process and losing consciousness. As Carly, Josh, and Damon confront their deranged parents, the film ends ambiguously, leaving their fate uncertain.
