The ritual cycle begins in Thena

In the Minoan Bronze Age village of Thena, the king Deucalion orders eight youths to be taken to the capital every three years for sacrifice to the Minotaur. Theo, son of Cyrnan, is haunted by the loss of his beloved Ffion in a prior sacrifice. A leprous prophetess hints that Ffion may still survive somewhere inside the labyrinth.

Against his father's wishes, Theo volunteers to replace one of the selected youths. He commits to entering the capital and the labyrinth, hoping to reach Ffion and bring her back.

Theo and the seven chosen youths are transported to the Minoan capital and dropped into the labyrinth beneath. The Minotaur immediately begins hunting them, first claiming Nan as the group fights to survive. The survivors quickly realize they are in a deadly, inescapable trap.

Queen Raphaella, Deucalion's sister and reluctant lover, reveals that she can guide them out of the labyrinth. Vena distrusts the offer and attempts to slip away, but the Minotaur strikes before she can escape.

The survivors follow Raphaella to a central chamber where a heavy wooden door blocks the way out. The Minotaur lies sleeping on a pile of its victims' remains, giving the group a brief, dangerous glimmer of hope.

Raphaella's plan to open the exit with Ramaya is foiled when Deucalion executes the girl. The attempt to break open the door awakens the Minotaur, and it kills Ziko as the group erupts into chaos.

The prince's death was blamed on Theo's village, triggering the endless sacrifices. She admits she sent the leper to recruit a killer for the beast, and lied to Theo about Ffion to push him toward confrontation.

The final distraction and a spark

Tyro sacrifices himself to distract the Minotaur. Theo lures the beast toward a gas vent, and uses Ffion's amulet to create a spark, setting the stage for the blast.
