Janaradhan Wishvanbhar Rane is a dedicated widower who has devoted his life to raising his two children, Chirag and Gaurav, with great care and love since they were young. Throughout their childhood and adolescence, Janaradhan has always prioritized providing the best possible upbringing for his kids, instilling in them strong values and discipline. As they grow older, Gaurav, played by Akshaye Khanna, takes on the responsibility of managing their household chores and supporting the family business, deeply respecting and caring for his father, often treating him almost like a son himself.
Gaurav is depicted as a protective and vigilant figure, often shouting, threatening, or even locking his father to prevent undesirable influences—particularly from Madhav Mathur, a character notably played by Om Puri. Madhav is a divorcee desperate to find love and marry, and he is the closest confidant to Janaradhan. Despite Madhav’s good intentions, his persistent pursuit of a new bride leads to frequent trouble, especially as Gaurav constantly bails them out of awkward situations and faces embarrassment along the way.
On the other hand, Janaradhan’s life takes an unexpected turn when Gaurav begins receiving prank calls from a girl named Sheekha Kapoor, portrayed by Genelia D’Souza. Sheekha is an old college friend of Gaurav’s, and the two share a complicated yet humorous history—she once bullied him during their college days. Currently, Sheekha is staying with her guardian Anuradha, played by Shobana, who also turns out to be Janaradhan’s first love from long ago. As Gaurav and Sheekha reconnect, they cannot help but notice subtle changes in the behavior of Janaradhan and Anuradha when they come face-to-face after many years. It becomes evident that their past relationship holds the key to understanding their current circumstances.
Gaurav, noticing this nostalgic and tender connection, hatches a plan to help his father reunite with his lost love through a marriage arranged for Janaradhan and Anuradha. The process becomes a humorous journey filled with obstacles, as Madhav, still eager for a bride himself, unintentionally complicates things further. Meanwhile, Sheekha’s father, Nirmal, played by a character not provided with a specific actor, expresses disapproval of their relationship, especially since the arranged marriage involves her moving into a family where her future father-in-law is also planning his honeymoon. His threats to terminate Sheekha’s relationship with Gaurav create additional hurdles.
Compounding these challenges are the objections of Chirag’s wife Rupali (Preity Pundir) and her family, who oppose the union. Despite facing significant opposition from multiple sides, a series of comic and heartfelt events lead to Gaurav eventually marrying Janaradhan to Anuradha—against many expectations. The climax reveals a surprising twist when Nirmal confesses that if Gaurav had chosen not to marry his father off and instead pursued Sheekha romantically, he would have been greatly disappointed. The story concludes on a happy note, with Sheekha’s father giving his approval, and Gaurav and Sheekha starting their new life together, emphasizing themes of love, family bonds, and the importance of following one’s heart amid life’s chaotic but humorous journey.
