Marriage with a Fool

Ah Wah, newly married, spots his former tutor Josephine while promoting his Pets Funeral Service on a busy Causeway Bay street. They meet again and Josephine's vulnerability makes him want to help her through a difficult time. This encounter rekindles a growing attraction between them.

Bo wants to go to Japan to see snow, but the trip's discount and the debt to Ah Wah's parents create tension. Ah Wah suggests Shenzhen instead to avoid expense. Bo storms out of the travel agency, signaling trouble in their marriage.

Ah Wah follows Bo home after their argument; unable to stay, he is chased out into the street. With nowhere else to go, he seeks refuge at Josephine's house.

In Josephine's house, Ah Wah drinks beer while Josephine confesses her love. The two end up sleeping together, marking a betrayal of his marriage.

Bo, now working as a karaoke manager, meets Philip at her job. Philip’s quirky study of toilet paper brings humor, and Bo soon becomes friends with him after following him to a restaurant.

Ah Wah's parents visit the couple, and they pretend to be in love to please them. The pretense can't hold, and they decide they want a divorce, shocking everyone.

In the elevator hall, Ah Wah is with Josephine and Bo is with Philip. They share a short, tense chat that highlights how their affairs are pulling them apart.

Bo decides to work outside Hong Kong, but no taxi is available. Ah Wah refuses to let the marriage fail and tries to arrange a taxi, calling drivers and recounting happier times with Bo. He ends in tears, but his persistence shows his commitment.

Bo finally recognizes Ah Wah's seriousness and they reunite, choosing to stay together despite earlier strains. They plan to mend their relationship rather than part ways.

The couple goes to Japan with a discounted make-up honeymoon. They take pictures and display them in their living room, signaling a happy yet fragile reconciliation.

The director reveals that Josephine and Ah Wah, and Bo and Philip, continue to communicate. Josephine texts Ah Wah, and Bo writes a note to Philip on purple tissue, keeping lines open.

Ah Wah worries Bo will see his messages, so he deletes replies; Bo fears Ah Wah will discover her messages to Philip. The door is closed as the story ends, leaving their future relationships unresolved.
