Luo recalls his childhood in Kaili with his friend Wildcat. The tragedy unfolds when their plan to sell apples to gangster Zuo Hongyuan falls apart, resulting in Wildcat's murder due to a forgotten sale.

Despite his association with organized crime, Luo resolves to track down Zuo with the aid of his girlfriend, Wan Qiwen. Wan's background as a cat burglar adds complexity to their relationship and highlights her resourcefulness.

In a previous escapade, Wan and another woman break into a house only to be distracted by a mysterious green book containing a poetry spell. This spell appears to possess a magical quality, further entangling their fates.
