After relocating to their new neighborhood, Brian Arthur Stevenson, portrayed by Fred Savage, and his family are filled with excitement about starting afresh in the suburbs. However, it isn’t long before Brian meets his first real best friend, an unexpected companion — a lively monster named Maurice, voiced by Howie Mandel. Maurice is not your typical creature, as he thrives on mischief and all the exciting activities that kids can’t engage in while under adult supervision.
When his younger brother Eric Stevenson, played by Ben Savage, insists that monsters lurk beneath his bed, Brian decides to trade rooms with him to prove him wrong. To his surprise, Brian discovers that he is the one who was mistaken, as he encounters Maurice rummaging through his belongings. Together, they embark on a thrilling adventure, with Maurice introducing Brian to a fantastical realm beneath his bed, solidifying a friendship that neither of them had anticipated.
But as they revel in their newfound bond, they soon realize that Brian must eventually leave this incredible fantasy world, or he risks becoming a “little monster” himself. Complications arise when two menacing monsters ruling the monster world, Boy portrayed by Frank Whaley and Snik, played by Rick Ducommun, discover their friendship and retaliate by kidnapping Eric. They leverage Eric’s safety to manipulate Brian into staying and joining their monstrous ranks.
Determined not to let his brother down, Brian unites with his friends, including Todd (played by William Murray Weiss), Ronnie Coleman (Devin Ratray), and Kiersten Deveraux (Amber Barretto), along with Maurice, to hatch a daring rescue plan. They must act swiftly to save Eric before the ominous deadline approaches — just 3 to 5 minutes after 6:19 AM. Will they succeed in their mission and escape their grim fate, or are they destined to become little monsters forever?
