Little Big Soldier (2010) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of Little Big Soldier (2010), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

In the 3rd century BCE, during the Warring States period, a Liang foot soldier, The Soldier, survives a brutal clash with a Wey general, The Wei general, thanks to his uncanny talent for playing dead and a small, arrowhead-shaped device strapped to his body that lends added realism to his ruses.

Seizing the wounded General, the Soldier hopes to hand him to the Liang king as a path to freedom—an honorable discharge that would let him return home to a peaceful life. Yet the General, though a prisoner, is not a forgiving captive and treats his captor with condescension, setting up a tense dynamic as they travel together through a landscape full of shifting loyalties and unforeseen dangers.

Along the long journey they face a series of trials: a scheming singer who blames them for the war, a near-fatal encounter with a bear in the woods, vicious attacks by beggars, and a capture by Loufan warriors. Each episode tests their resolve and forces them to reassess what they are fighting for and whom they can trust.

Complicating matters, the General is revealed to be the Wey crown prince, and his younger brother, Prince Wen, covets the Wey throne. When Prince Wen learns the General has survived, he pursues them with relentless determination, hoping to eliminate his rival and secure the throne for himself. Despite their adversarial origins, the two men find themselves needing to cooperate when a common enemy—a band of Loufan warriors—emerges, and the Loufan leader seeks revenge for the death of his wife.

After a brutal clash, Prince Wen sacrifices himself to appease the Loufan leader and tells the General that one of them must live to ensure Wey’s continuity. This grim bargain reshapes the path of both men and destabilizes the already fragile balance between states.

Back in Liang, the Soldier escorts the General back home, but a last-minute change of heart leads him to release the Wey prince. The General promises that Wey will refrain from waging war on Liang for ten years if he becomes king of Wey—a pledge that cannot alter the larger tides of fate.

The truth, however, is stark: the Liang state has fallen to Qin. In a final act of defiance, the Soldier raises the Liang flag as Qin arrows rain down, and he dies with the banner held high. With Liang conquered, Wey ultimately surrenders to Qin, ending the immediate resistance and reshaping the balance of power across the region.
