In 1995, a young boy receives a Buzz Lightyear toy, inspired by the narrative of an upcoming movie. This event sets the stage for the story behind the character and his adventures.

A human spacecraft embarks on a mission to explore habitable planets located 4.3 million light years away. The crew, led by Buzz Lightyear and his friend Alisha Hawthorne, sets off on an ambitious journey.

Upon arriving at T'Kani Prime, the team encounters hostile lifeforms that force them to retreat. During their escape, Buzz accidentally damages the spacecraft, creating a need for urgent repairs.

One year after the crash, Buzz and the crew establish a fledgling colony on T'Kani Prime, making vital repairs to the spacecraft. They successfully create a new hyperspace crystal, which needs testing before it can be utilized.

Buzz volunteers to test the newly developed hyperspace fuel, with the assistance of the autopilot I.V.A.N. However, after a brief four-minute test, he discovers that the crew has experienced a time dilation, aging four years on the planet as a result.

Buzz continues testing the hyperspace fuel over the following years, leading to an astonishing total of 62 years of time passing on T'Kani Prime. During this extended period, the colony flourishes and personal lives evolve significantly.

Throughout the 62 years, Alisha Hawthorne builds a family and eventually passes away from old age. Buzz, despite the passage of time, remains focused on perfecting the hyperspace fuel.

Upon returning to action, Buzz finds that 22 additional years have passed, during which the colony has been attacked by Zyclops robots led by the mysterious Zurg. Buzz teams up with Alisha's granddaughter Izzy and new recruits to combat this threat.

Buzz and his team formulate a plan to infiltrate Zurg's ship to stop the robot attacks. There are numerous challenges along the way, including an ambush by Zurg leading to a crash landing.

In a shocking twist, Zurg reveals himself as an alternate version of Buzz from the future, who altered the timeline drastically. This encounter forces Buzz to confront the moral dilemmas surrounding time manipulation.

Izzy, Mo, Darby, and Sox launch a daring rescue mission to aid Buzz and defeat Zurg. After a fierce clash, they manage to destroy Zurg's ship, but he narrowly escapes with the hyperspace fuel.

In a tense moment of reflection, Buzz chooses to act against Zurg, ultimately destroying the hyperspace fuel to neutralize him. This act signifies his final break from his past ambitions.

With Zurg defeated, Buzz decides to stay on T'Kani Prime and reassemble the Space Ranger Corps. He recruits Izzy, Mo, Darby, and Sox to join him on new adventures, showing a commitment to protecting their new home.

In a surprising twist during the post-credits scene, Zurg is found floating in space, seemingly nullified. However, his eyes flicker to life, hinting that his story may not yet be over.
