The Monk

In 1999, a bloodied pilot named Petey Shelbourne enters a pawn shop, gripping a cursed toy monkey. He warns the shop owner that if the monkey’s drum is played, dire consequences will follow, indicating a supernatural threat.

When the monkey plays its tune, a series of catastrophic events unfold. A mouse bites through a wire, activating a harpoon gun that fatally impales the shop owner, showcasing the monkey's sinister nature.

Petey abandons his wife Lois and their twin sons Hal and Bill, leaving them to cope with his departure. Lois shares a bleak perspective on life, which heavily influences her children's upbringing.

Hal and Bill discover the cursed monkey among their father's possessions, misinterpreting the words on its box. Hal's curiosity leads him to wind the monkey, but no immediate danger ensues.

After leaving The Monkey in the car during a family outing at a hibachi restaurant, the toy plays its tune, and chaos ensues. The hibachi chef accidentally decapitates the boys' babysitter, Annie, in a horrific accident.

Upon returning home, Hal's mother Lois begins to bleed from her face shortly after the monkey's tune plays. Despite attempts to wake her during her funeral, the boys learn that she suffered a freak accident known as a 'boomerang aneurysm.'

The boys are sent to live with their Uncle Chip and Aunt Ida after their mother's death. However, disaster strikes again as Uncle Chip gets trampled to death by wild horses during a camping trip, further deepening their trauma.

Hal, now an adult and estranged from his brother, struggles with his past as he attempts to reconnect with his son, Petey. His ex-wife informs him that her new husband is adopting Petey, further distancing Hal from his family.

Aunt Ida suffers a horrific fate when she falls through her basement stairs and suffers injuries. Shortly after, she accidentally ignites her head on fire while trying to investigate strange noises, showcasing the ongoing curse of The Monkey.

After Aunt Ida's death, The Monkey reappears and is picked up by a local boy named Ricky. Unbeknownst to them, The Monkey's reactivation corresponds with a series of horrifying accidents in the town.

While on a trip with Petey, Hal receives an alarming phone call from his brother Bill, informing him that The Monkey has come back. This triggers Hal's decision to investigate the curse that has plagued their family.

As they arrive at Aunt Ida’s home, Hal and Petey witness a series of deadly mishaps linked to The Monkey's presence. A shotgun accident involving a real estate agent illustrates the continued threat to those around them.

It is revealed that Bill has been manipulating The Monkey to kill Hal as retribution for their mother’s death. His plan escalates, resulting in multiple innocent lives being endangered as he seeks vengeance.

In a climatic confrontation, The Monkey's drum triggers a catastrophic plane crash in the town, leading to immense destruction. The events highlight the deep-rooted curse tied to the toy and its tragic influence on the family.

As Hal attempts to reconcile with Bill amidst the chaos, tragedy strikes again with The Monkey's booby trap leading to Bill's violent death. Hal and Petey leave the wreckage behind, driving in silence towards an uncertain future.
