Corey is released early from Marseille prison for good behavior. Before leaving, a warden hints at a prestigious jewelry shop in Paris that would make a lucrative target. The idea of planning a heist begins to take shape as he steps into the outside world.

Corey goes to Rico's house and forcefully robs the safe, taking both money and a handgun. Rico is a former associate who has betrayed him, and his girlfriend now lives there. The raid marks the start of Corey's plan to assemble the tools for the robbery.

At a billiard hall, two of Rico's men confront Corey. He shoots and kills one man, knocks the other out, and pockets the stolen gun. The confrontation confirms that Corey will have to deal with Rico's remnants on the road ahead.

Corey buys a large American car and hides both handguns in the boot. He then heads for Paris, beginning the overland drive that will bring him closer to the target.

On the road to Paris, Corey tunes into jazz and a news broadcast on the car radio. He detects the growing police activity as a roadblock appears on his route.

Vogel, a prisoner being transported to Paris for interrogation, makes a break for freedom in open country. Commissaire Mattei orders roadblocks and a city-wide manhunt to capture him.

Vogel crosses a stream to throw the dogs off his scent, reaches a roadside grill, and hides in the boot of Corey's car. He waits as Corey drives on, hoping to slip by unnoticed.

Corey drives off into an open field with Vogel hidden in the boot, and tells him he can get out if he is safe. Vogel’s presence remains unseen by Corey, who believes the car is empty.

Rico's men catch Corey off the road, seize his money, and prepare to kill him. Vogel emerges from the boot and shoots both men dead, saving Corey and solidifying their uneasy alliance.

Corey takes Vogel to his empty flat in Paris, where they begin planning the jewelry heist with the help of a marksman and a fence. The mood is tense, but the plan starts to take shape.

Mattei targets Santi, pressuring him to reveal information about the planned meeting with the fence. Santi resists and refuses to talk, complicating Mattei's investigation.

Corey recruits Jansen, an alcoholic ex-policeman and crack shot, along with a fence to carry out the job. The trio starts preparing the long night of the robbery.

One long night later, Corey, Vogel, and Jansen successfully rob the jewelry shop. Rico's warning to the fence stings them, and the goods cannot be traded immediately, forcing the team to improvise.

Mattei blackmails Santi to reveal details of the planned meeting, posing as the fence and arranging a rendezvous at a country house.

Corey travels with Jansen to the country house; Vogel shows up, urging Corey to run with the loot. A tense confrontation follows, and Mattei's officers shoot dead Corey, Vogel, and Jansen as they attempt to escape, recovering the jewels.
