In 1959, at an elementary school in Lexington, Massachusetts, young Lucinda becomes transfixed by strange voices, suggesting a monumental disaster is imminent. Despite her teacher's attempts to engage her in a class activity, she begins to scribble a series of cryptic numbers, signifying the beginning of a haunting journey.

During the time capsule ceremony, Lucinda is noticeably absent, lost in her own world. When her teacher Miss Taylor checks on her, she finds Lucinda in a closet, bloodied fingers showing the extent of her obsession as she etches more numbers into the wooden door, signaling deep-seated turmoil.

Fast forward fifty years to the present, we meet John Koestler, a grieving M.I.T. professor played by Nicolas Cage. Struggling with the loss of his wife, John's life takes a turn when he misses his son Caleb's school event where a time capsule is finally opened.

Among the artifacts from the time capsule, Caleb receives Lucinda's ominous sheet filled with numbers. This sheet triggers unsettling visions for John as he realizes the numbers predict dire events, setting the stage for a race against time to uncover their meaning.

That night, as John decodes the letter, shock washes over him as he uncovers dates of past disasters, including the September 11 attacks and their exact victim counts. Initially skeptical, he grows increasingly alarmed as he recognizes the numbers predict numerous global catastrophes, including unresolved future disasters.

John's sister Grace notices his obsession with the numbers and expresses her concern over his mental state. Despite her worries, John becomes more determined to investigate the origins of the numbers, driven by a need to understand their significance.

In his quest for answers, John seeks out Miss Taylor, only to discover that Lucinda has passed away. This encounter fuels his investigation further as he comes to the horrifying realization that the numbers not only predict past events but indicate future calamities.

As Caleb begins to encounter mysterious shadowy figures, John feels the pressure to prevent a terrorist act in New York City. Instead of finding clarity, chaos ensues when a train crashes, leading John to question the power of the numbers he is trying to decipher.

With the date of October 22 approaching, John realizes it is marked as a catastrophic date in Lucinda’s cryptic message. He is driven to act, racing against time to decode the last predictions and protect his family from an impending disaster.

John discovers that the last prediction tied to the solar flare is crucial for his family's survival. In a panic, he rushes back to the school, facing a series of harrowing events that lead to the climax of his desperate race for answers.

As John navigates through turmoil, he learns that Diana and her children are also in peril. He embarks on a frantic chase, hoping to reunite with them and avert the chaos that is about to unfold due to the solar flare.

In a poignant climax, alien beings reveal themselves as the shadowy figures and come down to save only the children, Caleb and Abby. John shares an emotionally charged goodbye with Caleb, promising him that he will always be with him, amidst the unfolding chaos.

As the children ascend into the skies, leaving the chaos of Earth behind, John witnesses the devastating effects of the disaster unfolding below. The film concludes with a vision of Earth fracturing while the children find themselves on a distant, vibrant planet symbolizing hope amidst destruction.
