Journey of Hope

In a remote village of Eastern Turkey, the Öztürk family endures poverty amid political turmoil. Haydar tirelessly tries to provide for Meryem and their seven children, but opportunities are scarce. He decides that a journey to Switzerland could offer a safer, more prosperous future for all of them.

Siti is initially hesitant about the perilous journey but ultimately agrees to accompany Haydar. She becomes a reluctant ally, adding tension and strength to the plan. Her presence gives the family a glimmer of support as they prepare to leave.

The family leaves their village and crosses into Greece, facing treacherous terrain and harsh weather. They navigate dangerous routes and rely on smugglers, while meeting other refugees with stories of loss and hope. The early leg of the journey sets the tone for the peril ahead.

As they attempt the hazardous crossing toward Switzerland, the smugglers abandon the family. A blizzard blankets the mountains, driving them toward isolation and fear. The separation begins to fracture the family under the weight of the journey.

During the snowstorm, Meryem injures her leg and is rescued by police. Haydar and Mehmet Ali are separated and left to fend for themselves in the freezing air. The family’s fragile plan collapses into a fight for survival.

In the bitter cold, Mehmet Ali succumbs to hypothermia during the night. Haydar searches the whitened landscape for his son, clinging to the hope of finding him alive. The tragedy marks a devastating turn in their escape toward a dream of a better life.

Rescuers locate Haydar and his son in the morning, bringing them toward safety after the nightmare in the snow. They are taken toward medical care where Meryem awaits news. The reunion is overshadowed by loss as the family grapples with their injuries and separation.

At the hospital, Haydar is reunited with Meryem. She learns that their son Mehmet Ali did not survive the night. The grief compounds the endurance they've shown, as they confront an uncertain future in a foreign land.

Swiss authorities detain the surviving family and discuss deportation back to Turkey. The couple faces the possibility of returning to the poverty they fled, while also holding onto the memory of their lost child. The situation leaves their fate hanging in the balance.

With the deportation decision looming, the family clings to hope for a safer future. The journey has already exacted a heavy toll, but the dream of a better life persists in Haydar and Meryem. The film closes on a note of fragile resilience amid the unresolved fate.
