In the celestial Devaloka, the film unfolds the origin of the benevolent Santoshi Mata, born as the daughter of Ganesha—the lord of good beginnings—alongside his two wives Riddhi and Siddhi, and as the sister to Kshema and Labha. Though Ganesha has another wife, Buddhi, she does not appear in the story. The cosmic stage is set for a tale that braids divine intervention with human longing, inviting viewers to witness how devotion can ripple across realms. Santoshi Mata is portrayed by Anita Guha, whose presence anchors the devotional arc that follows.

A pivotal figure who threads through both celestial and mortal plots is the immortal sage Narada, a devoted servant of Vishnu. Narada’s interventions propel the narrative, guiding the two intertwined paths of gods and people. In the earthly arena, the story centers on the 18th‑century maiden Satyavati Sharma, brought to life by Kanan Kaushal as a devoted follower of Santoshi Mata. Satyavati leads a group of women in a reverent aarti, a moment that dramatizes the intimate exchange of sight and blessing between devotee and deity—the experience of darshan that lies at the heart of Hindu worship. This first song, sung as “Main To Arti Utaru,” marks a rite of passage into a realm where reverence can alter fate.

Satyavati’s life takes a tender turn when she falls in love with Brijmohan, affectionately known as Birju, a gifted young man from a prosperous Bias Brahmin farming family. Birju is a capable artist with a singing gift, and his affection for Satyavati seems to promise happiness despite the challenges ahead. Birju is portrayed by Ashish Kumar. However, the union quickly draws the ire of two of Birju’s sisters-in-law, Durga and Maya, whose jealousy threatens the couple from the start and foreshadows the social strife that will unfold within the household.

Meanwhile, the goddesses Lakshmi, Parvati, and Saraswati become entangled in the drama as Narada pushes Santoshi Mata’s devoted follower into a test of Shraddha (faith). The divine “pariksha” serves to probe the sincerity of Satyavati’s devotion, even as the deities themselves seem to feign jealousy toward Santoshi Mata to test her authority. The celestial machinations set in motion a sequence of trials that will push Satyavati to the brink and compel her to prove the depth of her faith.

A rift shakes Birju’s world when a confrontation with his in-laws drives him away from home. Satyavati’s steadfast devotion—tempered by hardship—helps Birju narrowly escape a watery trap contrived by the gods. Although the family believes him dead and the prospect of widowhood shadows Satyavati, Narada steps in with guidance and reassurance. He reveals the path of Santoshi Mata’s sixteen‑Friday fast, a rigorous ritual meant to attain any wish through unwavering devotion. The vow brings immense hardship: Satyavati endures long days and nights, facing hunger and hardship in the faith that the divine will intervene at the crucial moment.

The tale deepens as Birju, now living far away, experiences amnesia inflicted by the divine plots and, in a striking reversal, falls for the daughter of a wealthy merchant. Yet Santoshi Mata’s grace revives his memory, and he returns home, bearing wealth and a renewed sense of purpose. The couple is reunited, and Birju constructs a magnificent home that includes a dedicated interior temple for the Holy Mother—a testimonial to the power of devotion and the fulfilled vow. The household now circles around the sacred presence of Santoshi Mata, with Satyavati at its center, guiding the family toward harmony and spiritual integrity.

With the home established, Satyavati plans a grand ceremony to honor her lengthy fast and to welcome Santoshi Mata more fully into their lives. The in-laws—even as they watch with skepticism—are invited to share in the celebration. But the last act of malice comes when the sisters-in-law and their cronies press a dish that contains lime juice, a bitter intrusion that violates the strict rules of Santoshi Mata’s fast, which forbids sour or bitter foods. The tension erupts in a clash between the virtuous and the vicious, threatening to derail the ceremony and the entire spiritual accord that had blossomed through Satyavati’s steadfastness.

Yet the narrative moves toward a harmonious resolution. The celestial authorities—Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Parvati—are convinced of Satyavati’s unwavering Shraddha, and the lovers’ trials culminate in a reinstatement of cosmic balance. Santoshi Mata’s presence is vindicated as a new radiant harmony is welcomed into the pantheon, marking the triumph of devotion over hardship and the restoration of order between heaven and earth. The culmination underscores a central message: steadfast faith, even in the face of cruelty and misunderstanding, can awaken divine grace and reshape the world for those who endure with sincerity.
