Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

Sameer arrives to stay with the Darbar family to learn Indian classical music from the renowned Pundit Darbar. Nandini resents the intrusion as it disturbs her life and she even swaps rooms with him. The initial friction foreshadows the complicated romance to come.

As they interact during lessons and family gatherings, teasing gradually gives way to affection. They share music and quiet moments that reveal a deeper connection. Their romance develops under the wary gaze of the Darbar family.

The couple is caught rehearsing their wedding vows by the Pundit, who is enraged because he has already arranged Nandini's marriage to Vanraj. He condemns the union as a betrayal of the family honor. The shock triggers a crisis that will separate the lovers.

Sameer is banished from the household and the Pundit renounces his singing, convinced the family has been irreparably shamed. He orders Sameer to vow never to meet Nandini again. The home atmosphere turns cold and unforgiving.

Sameer leaves for Italy and begins writing letters to Nandini, but they never reach her. Nandini, heartbroken by the absence and silence, makes a desperate suicide attempt. Under family pressure she ultimately marries Vanraj.

The wedding occurs, but on the wedding night Vanraj's attempt to consummate is met with Nandini's cold distance. She cannot share intimacy while her heart remains torn between two men. The strain foreshadows the turmoil to come.

Later, Nandini finally receives Sameer's letters and finds Vanraj reading them. He is initially furious, thinking to return her to her parents, but then realizes that she loves another man. He decides to step aside and help unite the couple.

With Vanraj's blessing, Nandini and Vanraj travel to Italy to locate Sameer. The search yields few leads and interpersonal tensions rise during the journey.

During the search, they are mugged and Nandini is shot in the arm. Vanraj's gentle care during her injury deepens her appreciation for him. The incident strengthens their bond as they continue the pursuit.

They locate Sameer with the help of his mother, and Vanraj arranges a meeting on the night of Sameer's debut concert. Nandini apologizes and tells Sameer that she now loves Vanraj. Sameer, realizing her feelings have shifted, lets her go.

Backstage, Sameer breaks down in tears after she leaves, overwhelmed by heartbreak. His mother consoles him, offering comfort and support in his moment of sorrow.

Seeing that she cannot live without him, Nandini runs back to Vanraj and declares her boundless need for him. Vanraj places the mangala sutra around her neck, and they embrace, sealing their renewed bond.
