Aditya [Akshay Kumar] is an automobile engineer and test driver who lives for speed and precision, yet he carries a traditional mindset that often clashes with the modern, independent views of his fiancée, Sonia [Bipasha Basu], a budding fashion designer. Their relationship is real, but the growing tension between their worldviews is clear, and despite the friction, the wedding date remains fixed as both families brace for the big day. Their story unfolds against a backdrop of family expectations, career pressures, and the search for lasting love.

When a work assignment sends Aditya to Canada to study a new car model, Sonia heads to Paris for a fashion show, pulling them in different directions. In Canada, Aditya is welcomed by his sister Simran Simran R. Kohli, her husband Robby, and their child, Dumpty, a warm scene that also brings Jia A. Yashvardhan Katrina Kaif into view. Jia, the daughter of a powerful business family and the fiancée of Karan Oberoi Anil Kapoor, arrives with the wish to shop for her wedding, but beneath her polished exterior lies a desire for genuine love. Despite Jia’s wealth and privilege, she’s drawn to Aditya’s down-to-earth nature, and a friendship begins to bloom between them as they spend time together in this unfamiliar country.

A chance to prove themselves comes when Aditya earns a spot to participate in a car rally, and he invites Jia to join him. They win the rally, sharing a victory that strengthens their bond. On the ride back, their car becomes stuck in the snow, forcing them to spend the night together. What starts as companionship soon deepens into something more intimate, and they wake to the realization that their feelings have grown into love. The drama thickens when Jia confides that she believes her father may be connected to her mother’s death. Aditya turns to Nawab Sharif [Vivek Shauq] for support, and Nawab’s admission to a trusted friend, followed by publication of the rumor in a newspaper, rockets Jia’s world into a painful spotlight back home. Hurt and disillusioned, Jia returns to India to pursue her engagement to Karan Oberoi, while Aditya also heads back, ready to honor his commitment to Sonia.

Back in India, Jia’s life centers on a wedding aligned with Karan Oberoi, and Sonia is unexpectedly hired to design Jia and Karan’s wedding attire. In a surprising turn, Sonia persuades a reluctant Aditya to accompany her to the ceremony, weaving her way into the events despite the history between Aditya and Jia. At the wedding, Jia’s friend and Karan’s secretary, Jenny Shernaz Patel, becomes tangled in the upheaval when Nawab reveals the truth behind how Jia’s secret was published. The ceremony proceeds, and with emotion bubbling beneath the surface, Jia and Aditya confess their love for one another but vow not to pursue it, insisting that they belong to different lives. Yet the moment is interrupted by Karan, who, catching them in a private moment, asks Jia to be honest. She insists that she truly loves Karan and that Aditya is only a cherished friend.

As Aditya leaves the wedding, trouble returns in a dramatic turn: he discovers an overturned car on the road, and Jia is trapped beneath it as petrol leaks and the vehicle threatens to ignite. Braving flames, Aditya crawls into the burning car to rescue Jia, freeing her just as the crowd gathers. After the perilous rescue, Aditya accompanies Jia to Karan and declares that Jia belongs to him. Seeing the depth of their bond, Karan experiences a shift of heart, removes Jia’s mangalsutra, and tells her to marry Aditya. The engagement with Sonia is broken, and in a final, heartfelt embrace, Aditya and Jia find their unity at last, choosing a future together despite the obstacles they faced.
