Housebound

Kylie Bucknell attempts to steal a safe from an ATM but is caught and arrested. She is sentenced to eight months of house arrest under her mother Miriam, with an ankle monitor that will alert authorities if she leaves the premises.

Kylie resents the arrangement and clashes with both Miriam and her stepfather Graeme. The house arrest locks her inside the family home as tensions rise and old wounds resurface.

Miriam claims the house is haunted, and Kylie becomes unnerved by unexplained occurrences. When a disembodied hand grabs Miriam in the basement, Kylie suspects an intruder and grows more convinced something supernatural is at play.

Amos, a security contractor, arrives in response to the ankle monitor breach. He brings ghost-hunting equipment after Miriam suggests the haunting might be real.

A sequence of unexplained events convinces Kylie that a ghost may be in the house. Dennis, Kylie's clinical psychologist, becomes concerned about what he views as delusions affecting Miriam and Kylie.

Graeme reveals their home was once a halfway house and the site of a horrific murder. They uncover evidence of the crime, including a partial denture left behind.

Kylie and Amos discover that the neighbor uses a denture. She breaks into the neighbor's house to steal it, returns home and hides in the basement, and in a panic accidentally stabs Graeme.

Amos attempts to break into the neighbor's house to check the denture, but the neighbor denies being the killer and explains the case of Eugene, a young savant who disappeared a year earlier. The conversation deepens the mystery.

Kylie discovers Eugene's secret hallways beneath their house and comes face to face with him. After a narrow escape, she and Amos go to the police station where Amos supports her accounts of a hidden killer living in the tunnels, though the police find no evidence.

Dennis reveals that he wears a partial denture and that he interned at the halfway house. He attempts to kill Miriam and Kylie, incapacitating Amos.

Kylie and Miriam flee into the secret tunnels and encounter Eugene, who initially frightens them but soon appears friendly.

They realize the paranormal activity has been Eugene all along and that he means no harm. He becomes a protective, albeit mostly unseen, presence in the house.

Dennis stabs Eugene, knocks out Kylie, and begins to strangle Miriam. Eugene awakens Kylie and hands her a weapon, which she uses to stab Dennis. He triggers a switch that causes Dennis's head to explode in a high-voltage blast.

Months after the events, the survivors have recovered. Amos removes Kylie's ankle monitor, and Eugene has seemingly become an accepted, though mostly unseen, member of the household.
