Roy Eberhardt, portrayed by Logan Lerman, is a spirited teenager who finds joy in the expansive landscapes and majestic mountains of Montana. His peaceful life takes an unexpected turn when his father’s job necessitates a sudden relocation to a quaint town in Florida. As he navigates the typical challenges of being the new kid at school, he faces an immediate confrontation with the local bully during a bus ride. However, it is not just the bullying that piques his interest on that fateful day; he also witnesses a remarkable sight—a teenage boy sprinting barefoot alongside the bus, moving with a wild, untamed energy.

Determined to learn more about this intriguing figure, Roy steps off the bus the next day, setting out on a mission to find him. His pursuit leads him to the nearby golf course, where he ultimately encounters the boy, known as Mullet Fingers, played by Cody Linley. This remarkable young man is a runaway who has taken up residence on an abandoned boat situated close to the golf course. But Mullet Fingers is not just a boy living a carefree life; he has devoted himself to a noble cause—protecting the burrowing owls that make their home in the vacant lot slated for the construction of a pancake house. The impending development poses a dire threat to these owls, as the pancake house would obliterate their habitat.

Moved by Mullet Fingers’ dedication and bravery, Roy decides to join forces with him and his feisty sister Beatrice, portrayed by Brie Larson. Together, this unlikely trio embarks on a mission to safeguard the owls and halt the construction project at all costs. Their journey is fraught with challenges, but it also reveals the power of friendship and the strength of standing up for what you believe in. Through determination and teamwork, they aim to prove that even young individuals can make a significant impact when they fight for a cause they care about.
