Highlander: The Source

In a near-future world ravaged by violence, a group of immortals still holds resources and advanced tech. Methos, Reggie, Zai Jie, and Cardinal Giovanni plot to locate the Source and claim its power.

Zai Jie contacts the group and seems to have found a lead to the Source. The Guardian, a monstrous immortal of uncanny speed, kills him before the information can be shared.

Methos reaches out to his old ally Joe Dawson to recruit Duncan MacLeod. Joe agrees to seek out Duncan and bring him into the quest.

Duncan wanders the wastelands separated from his mortal wife Anna Teshemka. The Guardian suddenly attacks him, forcing Joe Dawson to intervene and recruit him.

Duncan joins Methos's group at a monastery where the Elder is sought for help. Inside, they encounter Anna, who has visions pointing toward the Source.

Ancient immortals once found the Source, but two of the three survivors were cursed. One became the new Guardian and another the endlessly decaying Elder, while the third is implied to have reincarnated as Anna.

The Elder warns that drawing closer to the Source will weaken each immortal and strip away their immortality. The warning underscores the peril of their quest.

The Guardian bursts onto holy ground and targets Reggie and Dawson. Duncan attempts to defend them with a katana, but the weapon is broken and Joe is killed before the Guardian escapes.

Duncan buries Joe and the group proceeds toward the Source, believed to lie on an island off the coast of Lithuania, patrolled by cannibal gangs. They fight locals and hatch a plan, discovering two butterfly daggers along the way.

The group reaches a deserted house near the Source where the Guardian begins slashing Reggie. Because they are near the Source, Reggie's wounds do not heal and he dies.

On their journey, Duncan and Methos realize that the expression there can be only one refers to a single immortal who can claim the Source's full power. The line is not about annihilating all immortals, but about singular dominion.

The group is captured by cannibals at a roadblock, while the Guardian frees Anna and forces her to accompany him to the Source. Giovanni escapes, choosing a dangerous destiny over staying with Methos and Duncan.

Giovanni, convinced he is the One, abandons the others. The Guardian decapitates him, removing Giovanni from the pursuit and shifting focus to Duncan.

Methos concludes that Duncan is the One due to his incorruptible nature. He rides off on a horse to draw away cannibals, giving Duncan a chance to pursue Anna.

Anna communes with the Source as Duncan nears the power. A spectral barrier blocks Duncan from joining her, while the Guardian presses the fight. Duncan uses his speed to bury the Guardian in the ground and refuses to kill him, ending the threat as the Guardian vanishes in a blast and the fetus image appears, signaling a new beginning.
