Hell

In 2016, Marie, Leonie and Phillip drive through a scorched post-apocalyptic Germany in a Volvo with metal mesh on the windows. They scavenge for water, food and fuel while crossing a sun-scorched landscape where heat makes daylight travel perilous. Their destination is the mountains, rumored to hide scarce water.

At a ruined gas station, a hooded man abducts Leonie and steals supplies. After a struggle, Phillip and Tom subdue the attacker, who claims to be a mechanic. The group negotiates a tense truce and agrees Tom will ride along if he can repair their heat-damaged engine.

The quartet encounters a massive metal blockage on the road to the mountains. They work together to move it, then three of them go down a hill to scavenger for items, leaving Leonie alone in the car. The moment highlights their precarious balance between trust and danger.

Screams from the road reveal that Leonie has been abducted by carjackers. The others race to help but arrive too late to prevent the kidnapping. The group is left with the grim reality of how quickly a single moment can cost them a member.

The diversion with a Molotov goes awry and the escape attempt begins. Marie manages to restart the car and flee with Phillip, but Leonie remains behind and Phillip's foot is badly injured. The two survivors press on, while Leonie is left at the mercy of the captors.

Marie falls asleep in a ruined church and wakes to Elisabeth offering water and an invitation to her farm. She agrees to come as a guest, seeking safety and a possible way to rescue Leonie. The disturbing hospitality marks a chilling turn in the sisters' ordeal.

In Elisabeth's barn, Marie learns that Phillip would be kept as livestock and that Marie and Leonie will be forced to marry Elisabeth's sons. Micha attacks, but Leonie intervenes and kills him. Marie is bound and witnesses Phillip's execution before she finally frees herself.

Marie reunites with Leonie and Tom, and the captives flee into the surrounding woods as Elisabeth's family pursues. Tom fights several of the farmers, taking down opponents to clear a path. The trio escapes toward the mountains with renewed resolve.

The survivors press on into the mountains and finally find water. They look out over a chain of hills and the vast wasteland beyond. Birds circle the sky as a bleak horizon of hope and uncertainty stretches before them.
