In Tanganyika during the 1960s, the Momella Game Company forms to capture animals for zoos and circuses. The crew relies on off-road vehicles, lassos, and cages, led by Brandy de la Court and Sean Mercer, with Kurt Müller, Luis Francisco Garcia Lopez, Little Wolf, Pockets, and native Tanzanians filling key roles. They begin regular capture expeditions into the savannah to supply major clients.

An aggressive rhino gores Little Wolf's leg during a pursuit, forcing the crew to rush him to the Arusha hospital. The terrifying incident unsettles the team and highlights the danger of their line of work. The immediate focus shifts to medical care and the risks of future hunts.

Chips Maurey proves decisive when he agrees to a blood transfusion to save The Indian, using his rare blood type. Impressed by his sacrifice, Sean offers Chips a job on the team. The Indian's life is saved, altering the dynamic among the hunters.

Italian photographer Anna-Maria 'Dallas' D'Alessandro arrives at the Momella compound, sent by Basel Zoo as a client’s representative. Most expect a male photographer, but Dallas is welcomed to accompany the crew on the giraffe capture. Despite initial skepticism, she quickly proves herself capable and popular.

The next day, Chips and Kurt clash in a sharpshooting contest and form a wary friendship after Chips delivers a punch. Meanwhile, Dallas and Sean gradually grow mutually attracted, though Sean resists due to a past fiancée’s betrayal. The crew’s personal tensions run parallel to their animal captures.

The Indian is released from the hospital and tries to talk Sean out of pursuing any more rhinos. Sean refuses to abandon the season entirely but agrees to wait until the end of the current run before taking on new orders. The tension between safety and ambition deepens within the crew.

The crew visits a village where a rogue female elephant has been killed by a game warden, prompting Dallas to adopt the orphaned calf. To feed the calf, the team acquires goats, causing chaos around the compound. Sean protests but Dallas remains determined to care for the calf.

A second elephant calf arrives, and the Waarusha people, impressed by the calves' following Dallas, adopt her into their tribe and name her Mama Tembo, or 'Mother of Elephants'. A few days later, a third calf appears, deepening the elephant network around Dallas. Sean grows increasingly unsettled by these events.

A third elephant calf shows up, further entangling Dallas with the elephants. Sean is infuriated by the escalating situation, fearing it distracts from the hunters’ orders and his own past heartbreak. The tension tests the crew’s cohesion.

The crew completes captures of a zebra, an oryx, a gazelle, a leopard, and a buffalo. During a wildebeest chase, the herding car flips, dislocating Kurt’s shoulder and badly spraining Chips’ leg, while Pockets falls from a fence but remains unhurt. The accident disrupts operations and tests the crew’s camaraderie.

Pockets attaches a small rocket to a net and launches it into a tree, trapping nearly 500 vervet monkeys. The capture astonishes the crew and showcases Pockets' accidental ingenuity. The success boosts morale despite the day’s earlier setbacks.

Dallas, fearing Sean cannot move past his fiancée’s betrayal, writes a farewell letter and flees the compound. Her departure leaves Sean reeling and raises questions about the future of their partnership.

With help from the crew and the three baby elephants, Sean tracks Dallas to Arusha and the couple reconciles. The two decide to marry and prepare for their wedding night, finally choosing to give their relationship a second chance.

On the eve of their wedding night, the three baby elephants barge into Sean’s room and destroy the bed, interrupting the couple’s private moment. The elephants’ intrusion becomes a humorous, bittersweet capstone to their story.
