After the successful attack his wealthy, pro‑British father condemns him, but Raghu insists that India's liberty outweighs family ties. When police come to arrest him, his father hands him over, yet his pregnant wife Parvati diverts the police and helps Raghu escape. He crashes on his bike and is declared dead. Parvati raises their son Ashok alone, still believing her husband will one day return.
