Marketing executive Danny Moore proposes the idea of the GT Academy, aiming to identify racing talent among the 80 million Gran Turismo players. This initiative is seen as revolutionary, with the potential to transform gamers into real-life racing champions.

Jack Salter, a former driver turned mechanic, is initially hesitant to join the GT Academy team due to concerns over the inexperience of the gamers. His reluctance stems from worries about the risks involved in high-speed racing, particularly for novices.

In Cardiff, Wales, Jann Mardenborough, a passionate gamer and part-time worker, aspires to become a professional racer against his father's wishes. His determination drives him to pursue opportunities in racing, believing it to be his true calling.

Jann learns he has qualified for a race that will secure him a spot in the GT Academy. The night before the competition, he attends a party with his brother, where he meets Audrey, sparking a romantic interest amidst the excitement.

At the party, police intervention forces Jann into a reckless escape, leading to a confrontation with his father later on. This incident serves as a lesson in responsibility, yet Jann remains committed to his racing ambitions, ultimately securing a place at the Academy.

At the GT Academy camp in Silverstone, Jack rigorously tests Jann and other competitors to refine their skills. During one challenge, Jann surprises everyone by crashing, unveiling a serious issue with the car's brakes, showcasing his attention to detail.

Jann impressively wins the final race against American contender Matty Davis, despite Danny initially favoring Matty for his marketability. This victory solidifies Jann's position at the Academy and sets him on the path to earning a professional racing license.
