A quiet, unsettling mystery unfolds around a young boy who is warned by a mysterious woman that he will die after picking up a ticket tucked inside a red bag. As he heads home on the subway, fate intervenes in a strange moment: he’s pulled from the carriage when the conductor is momentarily distracted by a figure outside. The incident sets off a chain of eerie observations that ripple through those who encounter the red bag’s ticket. The next day, Takeshi’s classmate Noriko Kimura finds the same ticket and, drawn by a vision of a baby and its mother, shows it to her sister Nana. Nana’s curiosity deepens when she spots Takeshi waiting for the train and tries to follow him, only to miss him again in the bustling station. The mystery widens as Nana begins to connect the dots between the ticket, its repeated returns to a lost-and-found, and the ominous pattern of the people who have touched it dying shortly thereafter. Those victims share two chilling traits: black marks across their faces and black eyes, an eerie signature that threads through each strange encounter.

Nana decides to take action and contacts the train conductor Shunichi Kuga, Shun Oguri. From the name written on the ticket, Yaeko Aonuma, she learns that the ticket has been claimed multiple times and then returned, each return preceded by death. The visions begin to mount: Takeshi’s apartment visit reveals the boy appearing pale and naked, his face marked with dark lines and his eyes overshadowed, while his mother mutters that he is no longer Takeshi. Nana’s quest becomes personal and perilous as she delves into a history of train, tracks, and restless spirits that refuse to be dismissed.

At the subway station, Nana’s classmate Kanae Fujita, Chinatsu Wakatsuki, receives a bracelet from her boyfriend that proves to be a useless trinket. That night, at the station, the boyfriend undergoes possession and chokes Kanae before collapsing. Kanae’s courage returns when the spirit leaves him and a train appears; the dying boyfriend rasps a warning: “beware of Yaeko.” Kanae’s search leads her to the station, where Yaeko’s spirit gives chase until she collides with Nana. With danger mounting, the two girls decide to investigate the mystery together, agreeing to meet at the station again the next day. Fate complicates things when Nana has to care for her ailing mother at the hospital, leaving Kanae alone at a station where she narrowly avoids being struck by a train—the intervention of a mysterious hand saving her at the last moment.

Nana presses for more information about Yaeko from Shun Oguri as she learns that Yaeko is a pregnant woman who died after being hit by a train, yet the fate of her baby remains unknown. Kanae wakes to the sight of a woman who had saved her, and the woman confesses a desire for vengeance against Yaeko, explaining that her own son suffered a fate similar to Takeshi’s. The woman agrees to drive Kanae to the station, but Yaeko hijacks the car, leaving the woman to escape while Kanae is unable to be saved. Kanae pleads with Nana to help her sister, hoping that Nana can save her friend before the train claims more lives.

At the station, Kanae’s fate becomes a grim warning, and with Kuga’s help the trio descends deeper into the subway’s heart. Nana experiences another vision, uncovering that there was already a lingering spirit in the subway—Yaeko is not the first victim, but rather the latest echo of a long history of hauntings. Yet this newer, sorrowful spirit — furious at not knowing her baby’s fate — grows in power until she becomes the primary haunting presence of the entire subway system.

Behind a hidden tunnel wall, Nana and the woman discover a chamber where ancient statues stand and Noriko lies sleeping atop a mountain of dead bodies. Yaeko appears in a blaze of fury; the woman, revealed to be Yaeko’s long-lost child, confronts Yaeko and is fatally stabbed by a stalagmite. As the dying woman’s scars reveal her true identity, Nana learns she is Yaeko’s child, a progeny bound by tragedy. The revelation triggers a wave of reanimated corpses, forcing Nana and Noriko to sprint back toward Kuga’s train, which narrowly survives a deadly chase as the locomotive is steered back to the station.

The day after, Nana and Noriko visit their recovering mother, who is ready to return home. A news report shows that Kuga has ordered an explosion to seal the subway forever, a desperate act meant to end the cycle of hauntings. Nana sits on a bench outside and encounters Kanae’s spirit, sharing a quiet, hopeful moment before Kanae disappears. The story closes with a sense that some wounds run so deep that even the most exhausted rails cannot fully erase them, leaving the subway as a haunted vessel of memory and loss.
