Ghostland

Pauline, Beth, and Vera travel to their aunt Clarisse's secluded home after inheriting it through the will. They settle in and begin to explore the old, quiet rooms. The isolated countryside setting foreshadows the danger looming over the family.

That night, two intruders—the Fat Man and the Candy Truck Woman—break into the house. Vera is attacked and Beth struggles to escape but is confronted by the Candy Truck Woman. Pauline intervenes by killing both intruders.

The intruders are dead, but the family is left shattered by the violence. The house becomes a place of fear as they try to recover from what happened. The memory of that night continues to haunt them

Beth has grown into a successful horror fiction writer living in Chicago with her husband and son. She appears on a talk show to promote Incident in a Ghostland, a novel inspired by that night. The interview hints at the past while keeping the full truth just out of reach.

Vera pleads with Beth to come back to Clarisse's house, where she still lives with Pauline. Vera's condition has left her delusional and traumatized, unable to move past the events. Beth agrees to return to confront the past.

Upon Beth's arrival, Pauline explains Vera's ongoing delusions and confinement in a padded room. Beth begins to have strange dreams that blur the line between memory and fantasy. Vera insists that the tormentors are still seeking them.

Beth discovers Vera chained and made up to look like a doll in the basement. Pauline instructs Beth not to listen to Vera as she calls for help. Beth falls asleep and is momentarily captured by the Candy Truck Woman.

It is revealed that the Candy Truck Woman actually killed Pauline that night. Beth and Vera are, in fact, teenagers still being held captive in Clarisse's house, and Beth's adult life has been revealed as a hallucination. The past and present collide as the truth comes to light.

Beth and Vera attempt to flee toward the road, but the Candy Truck Woman dresses Beth like a doll and the Fat Man torments them. They reach the road where two state troopers arrive to help and report the incident. The Candy Truck Woman shoots the troopers, and the sisters are recaptured.

Beth retreats into an adult life fantasy at a cocktail party where she meets her idol, H. P. Lovecraft. Lovecraft praises her novel as a masterpiece, offering a brief moment of acclaim. The vision fades as Vera screams remind her of the truth.

Seeing Vera in distress, Beth makes the choice to return to the house and rescue her sister. She escapes the Fat Man and confronts the Candy Truck Woman. This marks a shift from fantasy to a real attempt to save Vera.

Beth and Vera engage in a violent showdown with the two tormentors. A state trooper arrives and deadly fire follows, killing both the Fat Man and the Candy Truck Woman. Authorities arrive to secure the sisters and end the danger.

Beth and Vera are taken to a hospital after the rescue, and authorities begin the process of healing and recovery. Beth sees a vision of her mother waving from the house, a poignant reminder of the past. The trauma begins to give way to a cautious sense of closure.
