Five people—businesswoman Gwen Olsen, former police officer Patrick Sullivan, step-brothers J. D. and Brax Weaver, and teenager Melanie Cole—arrive at Fantasy Island, a tropical retreat where rumors of wishes coming true linger in the air. On arrival, the island’s enigmatic host, Mr. Roarke, steers them toward the fantasies they desire: Patrick seeks to serve in a war to honor his late father, Melanie aims to exact revenge on her childhood bully Sloane Maddison, the Weavers receive premier treatment at a lavish mansion party, and Gwen agrees to a long-since rejected marriage proposal from her ex-boyfriend Allen Chambers. The atmosphere is seductive and tense, a carefully staged playground that promises escape from everyday limits.

As the night unfolds, the stories begin to twist. Melanie soon discovers that Sloane has been kidnapped and brought to Fantasy Island against her will, and she bravely frees her from a masked surgeon before the two slip away into the shadows. Meanwhile, Patrick is seized by a military platoon and brought before their commander, Lieutenant Sullivan, who Patrick recognizes as a figure from his own family history. The push and pull between desire and danger intensifies as the island’s dangers reveal themselves: the masked surgeon launches another attack on Melanie and Sloane, but Damon, a private investigator, intervenes and puts an end to the assault by killing the surgeon. Damon then reveals that Roarke offered him a glimpse of his deceased daughter, a yearning that turned nightmarish and trapped him on the island. He explains that the fantasies are powered by spring water bubbling up from beneath a glowing rock in a hidden cave, a discovery the guests collect from before hurrying back to the resort in search of help.

The next morning brings a shock: Gwen wakes to find that she has a daughter with Allen, a revelation that unsettles her sense of reality and satisfaction. Roarke clarifies the cruel truth behind the wishes—that the fantasies must be fulfilled so that his own dream of being with his deceased wife can endure. Yet Gwen refuses to accept a life defined by tragedy and presses for a different outcome. She persuades Roarke to grant her true fantasy: the power to save her neighbor Nick Taylor, who died in a fire. What follows unravels the island’s veneer of benevolence: the guests are pulled into a nightmare as a cartel connected to the mansion’s owner takes the Weavers hostage, and Gwen discovers the night she inadvertently started the fire that killed Nick is the same night the other guests were present in close proximity to the tragedy. A rescue attempt by Roarke’s assistant Julia offers a glimmer of hope before danger intensifies.

Sullivan’s soldiers arrive to stage a rescue, but the cartel forces unleash a terrifying twist: the corpse-strewn aftermath reanimates into zombies that threaten the resort. In the ensuing firefight, J. D. is fatally wounded, and Sullivan sacrifices himself to ensure Patrick and Brax can break free and return to safety. The terror escalates as the zombified surgeon returns to ambush Melanie and Sloane, only to be thwarted by Damon’s final act of self-sacrifice, leaping off a cliff with the threat to his own life.

Back at the resort, the remaining guests regroup under a mounting sense of doom as Roarke closes in. He confesses that they are trapped within a fabricated fantasy designed to end with their deaths, a truth that forces everyone to confront how Nick’s death ties them all together. Melanie explains that Nick had asked her out on that fateful night, a decision she believed doomed them all to this fate. Julia—Roarke’s wife, revived by the island’s powers—appears and helps turn the tide, only to vanish again, leaving the guests to make one last stand.

Sloane remembers the spring water she had collected and wishes Melanie to be forever with Nick. The result is a desperate assault by Nick’s zombified form dragging Melanie toward the water, just as she activates the grenade that Patrick had been carrying. In a final act of sacrifice, Patrick hurls himself onto the device to shield the others, paying tribute to the way his father died years earlier. With the island’s fury temporarily quelled, Gwen, Sloane, and Brax awaken back at the resort and are allowed to depart as the reality of their purified surroundings returns. A plane appears on the horizon, signaling a chance to escape, but the island demands one last price: Brax’s fate is sealed to remain behind so that the fantasy can be fulfilled. As Brax settles into a new role, adopting the nickname Tattoo—an echo of a college friendship that once bound the group—Gwen, Sloane, and a revived J. D. board the plane, stepping away from the island’s grip.

The story closes with Roarke’s quiet acknowledgment that the cycle can continue for others who arrive seeking solace or punishment, and with Brax assuming his enduring place on Fantasy Island, his future entwined with the island’s mystique in a way that promises more questions than answers for those who dare to dream.
